Accompanying child access with a single use QP "Complimentary Invitation"

I can confirm that my colleague had a similar experience at SYD in January. She was in J to DFW, accompanied by two daughters under 18 (17, 13) and third daughter over 18 plus her boyfriend.
I gave her two QF passes. My thoughts were that the two under 18 could be admitted as child guests and the other two with the passes. Advised at lounge entry that they were a pass short. Staff took the two QF passes and the eldest daughter and boyfriend went back to the terminal.
The Family Lounge access policy on the website should be updated to reflect the details.

That's just nonsense. J pax gets 1 guest, 1 child is free, and then 2 guest passes. But the J passenger shouldn't even need their guest allowance as 2 children under 18 don't count.

I agree. I was pretty annoyed when I found out. I tried to seek clarification for them prior to giving her the guest passes but didn't get any answers.
I thought that maybe one guest pass would be sufficient but I gave them two just in case.

I got round this issue on a domestic flight by buying 1 J redemption. I called QF who said that the J passenger could have 1 guest + 2 children access. This complemented my BA OW Sapphire and a QC pass to get a party of 7 in. The lounge dragons raised eyebrows but relented

Too bad if you have more than 4 kids........

Mother-in-law enjoyed her J seat however. I had told her I hadnt been able to get her seated with the rest of us

Family of 6 (2 kids, 13 and 15) will be travelling from MEL to SYD (via Jetstar), and only have 5 complimentary passes...Do you guys think i need an extra pass ?? And also which lounge will be better, Syd or Mel ??

Hi annielee. As far as I know In Melbourne the new Jetstar T4 terminal can't access any lounges - it is about a 30 min walk between terminals too

It is a bit of a trek between T4 and T1 in MEL. The QP is also based in a separate terminal in SYD as well, so be prepared to walk between terminals.

so i guess its better to use it in Sydney.. but be early to the airport.. :-)

Hi Annielee - are you asking if you can go into the lounge when you land in SYD from MEL? or On the way home go to SYD early for checkin? I am not sure where JQ leave from in SYD, though I am sure someone here can help you with that

JQ leave from T2 in SYD and the QC is in T3. If you have any checked luggage you would need to check in your bags at T2, walk over to T3 (~5min walk), clear T3 security, go into the QC, walk back over to T2 and clear security there, ensuring that you leave plenty of time before your flight is due to board.

It's not really worth it IMHO.

still have to go thru security if no checked luggage ?

Yes, but if no checked luggage you don't have to go to T2 to check in first and drop it off; you can just go to T3 and check in when you go over to T2 (allowing extra time to do so, of course).

ETA - Unless JQ have OLCI? I'm not familiar with whether you have to physically present at any stage before boarding if HLO

yes, JQ have OLCI and im pretty sure we can go directly to the T2 boarding gate (unless it's different at Sydney airport).. that's what i did normally at Melbourne airport..

So you'd need to clear security in T3 and T2. plus make sure you had plenty of time to get to the gate in case of issues with the JQ flight.

<snip>

Sorry if I offend, but a single frequent flyer at WP status, attempting to bring in 4 other adults and a swag of children, is really pushing it. Best of luck and great if it is managed, but please don't fault the airline if such outrageous expectations are not met :) (try that stunt with Emirates and see how far you get....)
Pfft! That's nothing. I once had 35 in the SYD F lounge. ;)

It was an interesting conversation with the lounge staff when I rang them the week before. But that is a story for another day.

Not sure if this makes it more certain or more unclear, but it seems they have added a section to this page indicating that you may receive an invitation to purchase a lounge access pass Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club Lounges | Qantas

Immediately after this section, the section "Invite a Guest" describes how you can bring a guest along. I'm not sure if they intend for you to read both sections together, and therefore a guest is permitted with a lounge access pass, or whether they are distinct sections intended to be read in isolation. (I'm sure that's how some lounge dragons would view it.)
