Accor diamond worth it?

I'm unsure what that means. I suppose to give you a concrete example, suppose they booked the Sofitel Sydney for $500/night then proceeded to burn through say 12,000 Accor points + $20 AUD to stay at the property would they earn 30 status points (for the $20 AUD spent) or 692 status points (for the $460 original rate ex GST)?
Update: having looked through my Accor statement I think I know the answer, here. Back in September I stayed at the Pullman Auckland and used 2000 Accor points as part of the stay, which brought the rate down from $634.50 NZD to $563.71. A quick check of my Accor account indicates I earned 790 status points for the trouble, which works out to 316 Euros spent at the hotel (before tax), which in turn converts to $567.53 NZD pre-tax. Supposing hotels in NZ are taxed at a rate of 15% this in turn would work out to $652.66 which suggests that stays paid with points should accrue status points based on the total spend (including any points used to offset the price).

They would only get the 30 points.
As I’ve explained several times you have to physically spend money to get status points.
If however you booked a room at the Sofitel worth $700p/n and used points to pay $450 of it with the other $250 being cash then you get the 350 status points

You got very lucky if so because that’s not how it works.
You should only get points on the actual dollars spent

Checked my statement further and yes, you are correct here, that does appear to be a one off "fluke" (if you want to call it that).

So their best bet is to go out there and book a hotel for $231 AUD (before taxes) to earn Diamond status.

I thought I'd ask but I think I know the answer here: is there any way to earn status points by other Accor activities. For instance, would dining at a restaurant at an Accor property count if they were staying there? What about as a stand-alone thing? Alternatively, could they book a stay using Accor points and earn status points that way. I would think that they should have ample of Accor points accumulated given the status points earned this year, thereby making such a stay cost very little money indeed.
depends how many hoops you feel like jumping through, but the ALL Signature program in Brazil offers status points

Didn't know about that program. For those curious it's a paid membership program like Accor+ except you spend money to earn Accor reward points and status points every month. Their "best" plan is 560 Real (~$170 AUD) per month and offers 5,000 Accor points (valued at $165 AUD) and 1000 status points. It could be beneficial for those who want Diamond without spending the serious $$$ on it:

Not sure if the rules have been relaxed or not but I vaguely remember something in discussion came up about this program once before and that you need a Brazilian Tax File number to join

I appreciate the answers. Really helpful. As I understand it, only way to get status points is to stay at a hotel hence no good shortcuts for me.

I enrolled into Accor in the middle east, so I get status and reward points by dining at the hotel restaurants over there. I noticed that I get no such points when I dine in Europe, Asia or Oceania. I hoped that someone knew a shortcut where I could spend on wining and dining instead of staying at a hotel, but alas pay to stay it is.

My current thinking is to book two nights at Pullman Auckland. I am visiting Auckland for work, however my company has a proceurement manager that actually knows his stuff these days, hence we have contracts with 'preferred suppliers' and anytime we book with a competing airline/hotel/car, we do so on our own dime. Having a competent procurement manager has been really bad for my ability to game the system and obtain/maintain status with various airline alliances and hotel-chains...

Currently the ALL SIGNATURE offer 50% off for monthly plan, if only 350 status short to diamond, you can just pay one month EXPLORER plan and 50% off (600 status) , total cost AUD$55 , which also give you 3000 Accor points (60 eur back)

This offer is only valid for new assignments on any ALL Signature plan on 11/06/2023 at 11:59 p.m. on 11/30/2023 – Brasilia time (UTC/GMT -03:00).

Monthly and Quarterly with 50% OFF use “BFALLSIG23”

It is worth noting that in some hotels, the cash amount goes against the GST amount first, so you can end up with even less than you expect.

As per the LL article above, they appear to have relaxed the rule.

I was going to start a new thread but sunshine and beach distracted me….

One commenter on the flighthacks website called ALL Signature a scam saying they didn't receive the points after the first month.
