Add card to Apple Pay before Card arrives?

Hello,

I’m able to put down a bond and pay the first month rent for a flat, and they said I can pay by card. I’m thinking of taking out the Amex Explorer for 100k points on $4k spend. I was wondering if I could be able to add the card to my Apple Pay before I got my card?

Additionally, do Amex offer pro-rata refunded annual fee if I cancelled my card half way through the year?

I wanted to do exactly the same a couple of weeks ago (adding a card to Apple Pay before the card arrived). Unfortunately Apple Wallet needs to capture a screenshot of the card and you need to enter the CVV (which you will not have till you receive the physical card).

No
You can manually add a card but you won't have all the required data points without the physical card such as the 4 digit Amex CVV which is only found on the physical card

I think I've mentioned this before. When I applied for my card it never turned up - Australia Post had it but weren't delivering it. Called Amex and they got a replacement out to me next day via DHL.

Is that just an Amex thing? WISE has a digital card and you don't need a plastic one. In fact you pay extra for it if you want it.

Anz does too which comes in handy when plastic is compromised and cancelled.

Replacement cards are also another consideration. In many cases, these automatically update long before the replacement card arrives.

Lastly i was able to add card to apple pay/wallet and it works but only for small trnasactions, anyone else experienced similar? Assume its a security thing until the physical card arrives

My replacement card arrived but not updated in AMEX tracking.

My replacement card still hasnt arrived but finally the 3rd one (which they have done with express post) actually has tracking details and I can see its been shipped, should get today or tomorrow.

I think you need to capture a photo of the card and there are some numbers to enter on Apple Pay. I would be surprised if this were possible.

Yeah i have added it now (just got the replacement finally yay!) I was already able to use it but only for small transactions of about $100 or less, now its all set up with a pin should be fine

So i added my card, used it to pay a few larger bills I was waiting for it for (for points so I can meet the spend etc), i tried to do a pin in the app, wont let me, so had to call it was all automated set up a pin, but assume when I tap as usual in the past I wont need the pin?
