Hi All,

I have a question following on from a previous thread I raised in the Qantas forum. In Nov I am travelling to BNE -> LHR via HK and back via SIN on a 21 day trip. I am travelling with my partner and on the way back bringing back a family member. I looked at getting Qantas Club, however this only allows me 1 guest. So this brings me to the Admirals Club 30 day membership, does this give me access to lounges on my Qantas ticket at the mentioned stops, and for the ability to check in 2 guests? Also, if no card is provided how do you actually get into the lounges? Are there also any other pro's/con's to getting Admirals over Qantas?

Thanks heaps.

Firstly I'd consider purchasing the 30 day membership in the name of your partner, not you - sometimes you can't double up - then you can both have a guest.

Secondly, AC membership provided for Qantas International Business lounge access before flying Qantas and BA Galleries access before flying BA.

American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

Hi Everyone

I will be travelling with Qantas SYD-LAX and LAX-SYD and will also be flying with American Air during my 4 Week Holiday in the USA. Flying Economy and No Status with Qantas. I have recently joined the AAdvantage Program. When I joined AAdvantage I never received a Membership Card. Does AA send Membership Cards out? I was reading online that you can purchase an Admirals Club 30 Day Membership Online. I am aware that you can gain access to the Admirals Club Lounges while in the USA, But I was wondering, As Qantas and American Air are Partners, If I could access the Qantas International Business Lounge in Sydney, And also the New Qantas International Business Lounge in Los Angeles that opened last week? I know that with the 30 Day Membership that you do not receive an actual card. Without an Admirals Club Membership Card and Without an AAdvantage Membership Card, will I still be granted access? I have, However printed out a Paper Membership card that I obtained from logging into my account. Is a Printed Receipt for the AC Membership OK to present to the Lounge, along with my Paper AAdvantage Membership card? Does American Air and Qantas have systems that share this type of information (Proof of Purchase of AC Membership and AAdvantage Membership Info) to each other to ensure access to both AC and Qantas Lounges? I thought by getting the AC Membership that I could try out the Qantas Lounges before I commit into buying Qantas Club Membership.

I'm sorry for so many questions, but I knew that this would be the best place to ask!

Thankyou in Advance :)

Re: American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

If you are travelling on a QF or AA flight code access to the QP and Admirals Club should not be an issue regardless of status. There is a Qantas Club / Admirals Lounge reciprocal agreement which covers this.

Regarding the new LAX lounge, this is technically a joint Oneworld lounge, so this might be a no.

Re: American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

You won't receive an AAdvantage membership card until you reach Gold status level. Prior to that keep a note of your number and perhaps print out your own card something like this:

If you expect to be traveling again son, then consider taking the Gold or Platinum challenge.

Is that a new thing with AA?
We are all AA nothing but received membership cards after buying miles.

After joining in 2005 I received a membership card about 10 months later in 2006 - it is very thin plastic.

Ahh, you need some miles activity to get it sent out. So sounds like you don't need to get to Gold first.

Yes, mine was sent after I credited a CX flight to AA. Wasn't sufficient to make gold, but they sent a card as there had been activity.

Of course I went straight from zero miles accrued to Platinum status in one flight. Never received a White or Gold card on the way to Plat.

Re: American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

HI - when i bought it i nominated the date i was leaving Aust and then printed out the receipt - which i only needed for QF lounges here (and they quibbled) . the AA lounges just asked for my AA membership number and the membership showed up immediately. i'd recommend it highly - it was really good value and convenient

Re: American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

Thankyou everyone for your replies. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience, particularly with gaining access in the QANTAS International Business Lounge in Sydney? Looking on American Airs website under Admirals Club Membership it states that the only QANTAS lounges in Sydney able to be accessed are in T2 AND T3 (Domestic) I had read a few things online about American Air not updating the information on their website to reflect T1 Qantas Lounge access with the 30 Day Membership. Another posted mentioned that as the new QANTAS International Business Lounge in TBIT LAX is a joint ONEWORLD Lounge, that this may affect my ability to access that particular lounge?

Re: American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

yes, i was able to access the lounge at SYD international - BNE-SYD-LAX . at SYD just showed my print out - they ummmd but let me in. it is a membership and aa and qf have an agreement.

Qantas clearly list the LAX lounge as a 'Qantas' lounge. Qantas lists 4 'types' of international lounges to which its flyers have access - 'Oneworld' is not one of those types. Unless something has materially changed, the LAX lounge's Oneworld status would seem to be secondary.

AA instructions for use of the 30-day Admirals Club mship at LAX TBIT when flying Qantas are also that TBIT is a 'Qantas' lounge, and that you should present your credentials at check in. Perhaps it requires an official invitation to get past the lounge dragons ? Having it resolved at check-in may also make it easier to argue for what the AA conditions clearly guarantee to 30-day holders.
"Must present your Admirals Club membership card (or 30 Day Membership receipt) and boarding pass at check-in counter for same day travel on Qantas-operated flight."

I will be testing this system soon, after I dispense with the devalued QP.

Hi Timster,

I'm interested in how you went at lax lounge.

i have a friend travelling soon on qantas to Honolulu, then AA to lax and around USA, before qantas home again.
a couple with two 10 year olds.

i suggested the 30 day membership, but now I'm not sure?

also, will one membership cover the spouse and the two children?

Thanks

TQ

Sorry TQ I can't help you there. The grass has been so much greener with *A since I ditched QP that I haven't seen a Qantas lounge lately.

I can report that the concern earlier this year that Admirals Club member access to QF lounges was to be limited to only when on an AA flight number (ie QF codeshares or AA metal) does not seem to have eventuated. See access to QClubs here ...
Lounge Access
"Select Qantas Clubs when departing on the same day on a Qantas operated flight or an American marketed flight operated by Qantas"

And since there were reports of AC members getting into the TBIT LAX lounge when QP members were locked out during the renovations, one would assume that "select" includes TBIT.

The guest policy for actual Admirals Clubs is 'Immediate family or up to 2 guests', but I don't know what rules QF applies to AC members.

Re: American Air Admirals Club 30 Day Membership

Just last week we were granted acess to the One World lounge at LAX with a 30 day AA membership. I was told that I was only permitted one guest but the lovely customer service agent allowed my other guest in on another members account. I had read that I would have zero chance at all getting in and was prepared to go over to terminal 4 to the AA lounge. You can only try!

Thanks. I've been trying to find out the answer to this. AA is useless and Qantas can't tell me either... thinking about getting a 30 day membership for later this year, but I am travelling with 2 others.

Has anyone had any luck accessing the OW Lounge at LAX with a Qantas Club, flying on an AA code but on Qantas metal?
