Ads on VA website

Some people just state facts as well and don't defend a company due to vested interests. Fact is that having advertisements flashing up on an airlines site is a low cost carrier mentality
I didn't comment about whether I do or do not agree with you, I don't defend OR put down QF or VA and I have no vested interests, though it is an interesting accusation.

My comment is based on my observation that every time you get an opportunity you appear to bag out VA.

As others have pointed out though, this is your opinion not a statement of fact but in any case please make sure you call QF a LCC next time they put advertising on their site.

Geez, I might have to venture back to their site to see the ads... last time I was there I was unable to book a flight, so pleased the ads work LOL

I love this friendly banter....

I personally don't have a problem with any company having advertising on their websites home page. The internet is a medium to be used for all sorts of reasons and the fact that VA uses it to generate revenue in a tough market only makes sense. I think soemone else called it cross promotion (or something to that affect) As far as I know they are advertising businesses in the travel industry. It may seem a little odd if they decided to advertise Garden Sheds or something like that. I say good on them...

Please provide examples of true full service airlines that have advertisements on their homepage

Depends on your definition of what is and isn't advertising.

QF CX BA and SQ australian web sites all contain at least some promotion material of the airline, credit card offers and related travel insurance (and have a look down the bottom of the BA.com.au website for instance) but may not be as "in your face" as the VA web site currently (I wouldn't know for sure as all my browsers block the advertising content on VA at the moment!:) )

So its a case of shades of grey but the VA website is a little closer to the JQ and TT style of presentation rather than the SQ/BA or CX style. Note that with my browsers the VA web site is the only one that has trouble displaying content.

I think it comes down to VA using google ads, where AFAIK none of those other carriers you have posted use this service, they are advertising their own products and services, not products from external sources.

Really. I saw a QBE ad on the CX website screen shot.

I noticed this for the first time yesterday, and I think having an ad pop up on the side is quite tacky. The ad I saw was for a hotel, and if I was quite miffed with it. I did comment to the Mrs about this, and my opinion is that it is quite tacky and possibly a little bit of a money grab...are they really running that fine that they need this extra revenue? If it keeps my fligt prices down ok, but I think it is possibly just a bit of cream to ad to the bottom line.

My two cents worth, I think it is tacky and un professional.

Ahhh, this all explains why I have an extremely odd looking VA interface, as most of their website homepage loads as - strangely arranged blank space.

CX (as do QF for that matter) sell QBE insurance.....

QF have a whole range of hotels, cars, activities that they are willing to sell, as agents.....

Most airlines have advertising somewhere when you are using their services (on aerobridges, in lounges, etc etc), so I am not sure why people think that their web pages should be off limits.

Hmm, You must be seeing something i'm not. All i have seen is a cross promotional campaign with Accor hotels (there may be others but they aren't showing here). I think there is also Accor promotion in the Voyeur magazine this month so i don't think this is a generic "Google Ads" deal. It's being served by google but i assume that's for metrics/ verification not because VA have opened their web site to generic ads.

The unusual thing about it is not that it is there -- many airline web sites cross promote things like accommodation -- it's more the lack of depth in the arrangement. Usually these things are a "Book with Accor and get xx_ velocity points" or "book Accor hotels when you book a flight" and in this case it just hangs out there.

Yes, that was what caught my attention first up. Also, you cant click too quick when the page loads, as your click will land elsewhere until the ad loads and re adjusts the home page, also annoying, especially when you manage to grab a slow connection.

Does anybody else use chrome? When I head into the flight selection part of the boooking, chrome wants to translate from french to english!

That kind of ad within the website I understand. What you are looking for is what looks like a google type banner ad running up and down the left side of the page, outside of the homepage template, so not actually within the virgin page....does that make sense?

My pic is final/complete page load. Internet Explorer is quite adept (when set correctly) at stripping all third party origin advertising (and tracking for that matter) from displaying. So all I see is blank space, same on AFF too ;)

Yeah, i can see it. But it's only for Accor unless someone else is seeing something that i'm not? It's bad design but hardly unprecedented.

Im only seeing accor. I have no issue with that. If they were trying to sell coke or a car or widgets then it would be a bit rough, but hotels, meh most people book one as well so whats wrong woth being affiliated, so to speak
