I'm travelling ADL-BKK in a couple of weeks with carry-on only so won't be using my 64kg checked baggage allowance.

I recently saw an ad in the August edition of the Qantas in-flight magazine. It was from a charity which was asking travelers to Thailand (among other places) to transport donations from Australia as part of their checked baggage.

I tore the ad out but now I can't find it. Could someone have a look in the Qantas magazine for me and let me know what the contact number or email address is please.

Thanks.

Edit. I have found the ad. See post #10.

You can go to the Qantas site and view the magazines online can't you?

i have to say that I wouldn't be carrying something for someone else because an ad says so. Charity or not if anything dodgy goes into your bag your the one who has to explain stuff to customs.

Indeed. For a friend - maybe... for a charity, no. Especially to a country like Thailand who doesn't appreciate certain imports.

Given that it is advertised in the Qantas magazine I figure it's legit.

However, I would be checking to see what I'd be carrying.

If someone could get the details for me I'd really appreciate it.

I picked up a copy of the mag with a zebra on the front yesterday ex QF825 & remember reading an article Blueprints for a better world on page 43 about the group Engineers Without Borders & work they were doing in Cambodia but I don't remember anything about them wanting to use excess baggage from anybody.

Engineers Without Borders Australia

Edit: I have gone through the mag again cover to cover looking at all the ads but I can't find anything like what you describe. Was it the August edition with the zebra on the front or the previous month maybe?

I don't suppose it was an article in one of the colour magazines found inside the newspapers onboard?

Means nothing. But yes, they are likely to be legit, non-malicious and are only after free excess baggage cartage.

Each to their own with risk level.

My sincere apologies. It was actually in the Adelaide Sunday Mail and I just found it (I tore it out on the plane, hence my confusion - I blame the beer).

The charity is carryforkids and their email address is Carry for Kids. They are looking for travellers to Bali, Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand & Vietnam.

If anything goes wrong I will try to post from my cell ;)

If I'm reading the website correctly, the idea is that you take donations you've collected yourself onbehalf of the charity rather than the charity providing goods for export. The website also seems to be highlighting OS causes where they have verified the credentials of the chartity \ organisation which donations would be given to.

With this new approach it does seem like a good idea if the purpose of your trip is to help out either in full or in part.
