A Doha expat said they don't serve giggle/falling down juices during Ramadan. True or not?

Went Perth - Paris and return earlier this year. As said by others Qatar's on-board service was superb, excellent range of food and drinks, excellent choice of movies. The 777-200 was extremely comfortable with full lie-flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration (which suited as I was travelling with SWMBO). The Doha - Paris leg was on an A340 which I found somewhat cramped and a little bit uncomfortable after the 777.

The premium lounge in Doha is vast, with lots of different food and drink options ranging from a deli to full service restaurant. Plane to terminal and back was a bit ordinary, by bus and quite a long trip. In Perth, Qatar use the Malaysia lounge which is rather small and a bit tired looking with only limited refreshments (for a late night departure). Interestingly, J passengers aren't called first - they wait until the scrum has cleared then the lounge lady comes around and personally tells you its time to go onboard. Quite a civilised process.

+1
In business they normally present the wine at your seat and allow you to taste etc..but not during Ramadan (discretely poured in the galley)
Also, no alcohol at all in the premium lounge during Ramadan (or the lounges in the main terminal...i tried..). Can make a long transit slightly less interesting. Kind of a shame, although it is only one month a year where you can't have Krüg for breakfast...

Is this in the premium terminal in Doha? Can alcohol not even be requested?

I flew QR earlier this month from KGL-DOH-DXB in J and F. It was about half the price that Emirates wanted and if I recall the timing was better as well. Very impressed with the service and food. We flew on an A320 from KGL-DOH and then on the Dreamliner from DOH-DXB. A couple of hours were spent in their First Class lounge. It was quite impressive which you would expect being the flagship lounge. Loved the dreamliner, sadly the experience was only 40 minutes long! Will definitely look for opportunities to fly with them in the future.

No alcohol in Qatar during Ramadan but Ramadan ended almost 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately I plan to be travelling through DOH during Ramadan next year.

Was it during Ramadan? If so, was there alcohol in the lounge (or on the plane, for that matter)?

No, it was a few days after it had finished. Alcohol certainly freely available on both the plane and lounge on the day I travelled.

I don't believe so.

Bugger. I'm looking at their DOH-IAH 16 hour flight as part of a DONE3 next year and I was hoping there'd be something to break up the journey a little. I've heard their Business product is outstanding but the photos of I've found don't blow me away.

PER-DOH and DOH-IAL are both on 77L metal. There's no bar on board these. (I believe there used to be a bar on the A340 but it was later removed).

The J class on the 777 is "quite nice" but not ground breaking. The seats are in a 2-2-2 configuration, fully lie flat with massage functions etc. 72 inch pitch (? not certain - I couldn't reach the seat in front even when stretched right out). Nice big IFE screen with a good selection of movies (especially foreign language films). Lots of room for storing your nick-nacks. They provide very nice pyjamas, slippers and good amenities kit. Service is really excellent and the meals are great.

The Doha premium transit lounge pretty good on the J side, apparently sumptuous on the F side.

Fingers crossed oneworld Emeralds get to use that F side in a few weeks.
