I will not go on American / American Eagle on MD80 and the Embraer planes as I consider those planes to be third rate.

I love the Mad Dog, in F only. Its smooth, quiet and you can hear the altitude call outs when landing!

I guess there's really little experience with DL in this forum

Ive booked a trip with them from JFK to CUN in J/F for June crediting to Velocity. I think ive worked it out, or at least I hope I have. It doesn't seem any different to AA YUPP's except that the fare was a J/F fare and not an 'instant upgrade' (not that im sure there is any difference in this) and F and J earn the same SC's which is a bit silly, but given that VA/DJ and DL (international) dont operate a F cabin, its hardly surprising.

Thanks for the links serfty, looks like the fares cost a bit, but you can get a solid amount of SC's if you book flights with connections

How does one tell on AA.com site if its a 2 class or 3 class flight?.

ah so, thanx.

one other question how far out from Sept 2012 should I book?.

Depends.... Ive booked 2 months out and had no probs but if you want to get the best value YUPPS with 1 or 2 connections, id book sooner rather than later. Plus, be mindful of the exchange rate, as the AUD is fluctuating against the USD. You'd want to make sure its over parity to get the best "value".

Mrs Limewood and self be doing SYD/LAX return August 2012 with Q in J.

Then internal USA on AA, be LAX to MIA to NYC to LAS to LAX what would fares be in YUPP?, best place to book them? (AA here or in US), what status points would we receive with me as Q SG wife as SS?.

Booked over www.aa.com web site & paid using Aussie Amex card 'el segundo style' ie putting usual address in Oz in the first couple of address lines but added under city "Redondo Beach CA 90277 USA". It just has to be a USA address & does not have to match the actual billing address of your credit card. Saves having to call AA & pay the USD60.00 assistance fee.

When AA display the availability options it clearly says the class eg our recent LAS/xDFW/xMIA/SJU fare it will say "First" or "Business". The flights to from USA gateway city to the Caribbean will always be J as no F cabin however I found the seats were "F" & the catering IMHO was the same as "F" on our other flights but as it's designated J you will only receive J SC's.

FYI the airfare for the above itin was USD509.00 plus taxes USD30.30 total pp USD539.30 & total of 240 SC (90+90+60).

You will see Y, J and F for sale. On domestic 2 class services, there will be no J for sale, only Y and F.
Be careful of this - for multi segment routing you NEED to check each sector individually. Both first and business (and even economy) may be offered, but not all segments might be in the expected class.

Also, if your flight involves a routing outside the USA to another North American port (e.g. Canada, Mexico, Caribbean) then it may state Business on the 'fare' description but one or more internal USA segment may be in First class.

Also, economy may pop up at any time for a segment, even though the fare may be Upgrade, Business or First Class.

Currently, the only aircraft that operate three class routes for AA are their 772 and 762.

If a route is solely domestic USA and is operated by S80, 752, 738 or 763 it will only have First and Economy classes. However, an international flight segment (e.g. MIA-AUA) operated by one of these aircraft will have Business and Economy classes only.
