Advice on getting to Macchu Picchu

And having OW Plat (maybe Gold?) and hence 'Preferente' boarding on LATAM, can be a blessing!

And especially at check in. 'Preferente' check in lines are very quick on LATAM in my experience.

Yes, you will have to collect your luggage and exit customs and immigration. LIM is not a big airport, international and domestic are very close, similar to MEL.

Usually international arrivals is quite quick, unless you are arriving late evening (9pm onwards till past midnight). Luggage usually is very quick in my experience. I have arrived in LIM more than 30 occasions. I would say 2 hours is the minimum. Comfortable with 2.5 to 3 hours. Most of that due to checking in again on domestic. Its mostly manual check in. And the queues can be overwhelming at times.

If you have One World status, you can cut a good 45 minutes off that time.
Thanks Boca68. Since posting we have discovered our luggage will be checked all the way to Cusco, so presumably we will classed as transiting Lima and will pass through customs in Cusco. We hope that means we will have enough time to get from the international arrivals through to domestic departures. Our flight from Santiago is scheduled to arrive in Lima around 6.10pm and our domestic flight to Cusco is scheduled to leave around 7.43. We don't have One World status. What do you think?

Hi Casso,

+1 & I are also heading to SCL, MP, etc in April. We fly to SCL on the 24th. May bump into you over there.

May I ask what day you head off? Feel free to send me a PM (sorry, conversation) if you don't want to make your arrangements "public".

Looks like we won't - we will be in Cuba then.

I think you will be fine with the luggage checked through. An international transfer at LIM is easy, you can't miss it. There is only one way to go:)
I often arrive about the same time as you will be and its usually a quiet time.

What day are you flying to LIM? I'm on the same 6:10 arrival next week, LA632 , on the 3rd. I'll be in Lima for about 7 days, before going back to SCL for a few days there.

And if either of you need anything, especially in Lima. Drop me a message. My partner is Peruvian and I obviously spend quite a lot of time there. we can supply some contacts if needed.
Cheers Boca68, many thanks.
