Hi

I have recently joined the forum after many years of reading.

I am a gold FF, I fly regularly for work - mostly on the Syd - Melb sector. I only need 255 points to retain Gold, due date 1 May 2010 so that won't be an issue.

I am interested in trying to get to platinum and thinking of booking code share flights with Etihad and Royal Jordanian in business from Amman to Melbourne (flights to UK booked using points on way over and I will be in Cairo last). I am unsure how many points and status credits I will pick up for this trip, any advice greatly appreciated!

I am tossing up whether this is worth it as there is about a $2000 difference between codeshare and standard Etihad business (according to my phone call to Qantas).

Thanks in advance

Jo:)

$2000 is a lot of money, to be frank I would not bother, you would be best to look at using some points earned being spent on an Any Seat Award to get the required status. To put things in perspective, $2600 gets you two status runs to Fiji in business that will earn 720SCs in total, or halfway to WP, of course you need the time and inclination to go to Fiji or do an any seat award, but thats another thread for another time.

If on the QF flight number (codeshare) you would earn 200 SC's if there's a direct flight AMM-MEL. That's $10 per SC - IMHO NOT very good value.

It would be a lot of money for not much return imo unless desperate to get platinum, though there is no way I would say it is worth an extra $2000. If spending that much extra I would be looking to see if I could get 1st class on EY or another middle eastern carrier rather than go business

Thanks for the advice, I am looking at Etihad first and maybe a trip to Fiji!!
