Aero Dili launching flights from Melbourne and Darwin to Timor Leste

We could soon have direct flights from MEL to DIL - albeit a once-per-week red-eye service.

Interesting. Any tourism there, or is accommodation etc aimed at military visitors? I went to Iraqi-Kurdistan in 2010 when tourist travel was in its infancy, and in some parts like Sulaymaniyah the hotels and food was rather pricey because of the soldiers on rec leave had cash to burn.

Well, no sign yet of any Melbourne flights, but Aero Dili has just launched Dili-Xiamen once per week.

Aero Dili Begins Regular Dili – Xiamen Service From March 2025 — AeroRoutes

Published at 0300GMT 14MAR25 Aero Dili in February 2025 launched service on Dili – Xiamen route, with inaugural flight scheduled on 14FEB25, followed service on 18FEB25. This route is now scheduled on regular basis from 11MAR25, on board Airbus A320 aircraft. 8G881 DIL1830 – 2300XMN 3
