One of the benefits of having Aeroplan 50K status is being able to gift (I believe for 1 booking) that status.

My nephew+1 have already started their trip (Y) au to Canada and USA. Anyone know whether I can gift a Status Pass to someone who has already commenced their journey?

Not online. If you try to it tells you that the journey has already commenced and to contact an AC number to arrange it. Anyone who I've tried to give a pass to where this is happened has been a good friend, but perhaps not good enough for me to endure AC Customer Service (repeated traumas at the hands of QF Customer Service means I can longer call an airline number without breaking into a cold sweat).

Ok thanks you convinced me, I gave them the transferable lounge passes instead. All done online

Unless you're travelling with them I don't believe they're able to use the lounge passes:

Your pass can be used to bring along friends or colleagues, but the Primary or Secondary Cardholder must be entering the lounge as well.

It seems that there's 2 types of Aeroplan Guest Pass... transferable and non transferable. I found this below, unfortunately not directly from AC so is just heresay but if confirmed may be useful info...

The One-Time Guest Passes earned from Aeroplan Elite Status may be transferred to anyone, regardless of whether they are travelling with the member or not.

On the other hand, the One-Time Guest Passes earned from the small business credit cards can only be used by the primary or secondary cardholder, or any guests accompanying them at the time of entry. They cannot be transferred to a third party, as indicated by the words “Non-transferable” on the pass.

Addition: just checked my 50K account, passes state "transferable"
