Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

Sorry to hear that :(

I was using chrome a couple days ago when i called them. I needed the points from two current bookings to make my new ones. The agent said cancelling via her would cost $175 or $150 on line. I cancelled on line while she waited. Went through instantly, saved $50!

Getting through is a real issue. But at least AP has availability… LM has almost none :(
Just wondering, how long did you have to wait before getting through to AP. Also what time of the day did you ring.
Disagree on LM. They have stacks of Air NZ availability AKL-LAX/SFO.

Right when they opened, about two hours :( I possible to get through after that.

The NZ availability is in business? Normal,y that’s been near impossible to find! But LM does occasionally come up with some good stuff!

Yes in business, close in though.
Wow a 2 hour wait, when the call centre opens is telling me something there. Glad for you that you got through. If you were underway and needed to change something that would be a real issue waiting for 2 hours for someone to answer your call.

Wow, good to know! Although NZ has a pretty uncompetitive product these days :(
I also think it is a one off. I wouldn't be expecting it to continue in the future. And I agree, the NZ long haul J product is terrible. Wouldn't be wasting my miles with them.

Now selling with up to 110% bonus (I could see this!). Beware of future devaluation of points but great offer if award availability is there for a flight you want!
Buy or gift 80,000+ points and get a 110% bonus (until May 22, 2023). Reverts to 95% thereafter.

Was looking at topping up some points but no WY or EY redemptions showing currently and the EK redemptions are quite high although very small carrier charges. The Air Mauritius MRU-PER flights look ok value though and would like to try them out

MK all the way to europe is also good. Including stopover in Mauritius for 115k. VA domestic sectors to connect to Perth included!

That's on my to-book list too for 2024 travel!

That’s the one I’m after! A number of other out of the way places an easy step off from Mauritius too. I bought points last bonus time to do just that, but then blew them to get back from Europe on EY on another trip 😕.

Yeah, I managed to pick up some EY F seats in December on the A380 but we have just cancelled those as we have had to change plans due to work and aren’t heading to Europe until March now.
The search begins again now but weighing up the options for a relaxing week on the way home and the options at this stage are MK from Europe to Australia or or if EY availability comes up to do LHR-AUH-DOH on EY F/J and then QR F DOH-MLE and then options from there. Mrs Jase wants to go to the Maldives and I want to go to Mauritius so could get interesting 🤣

PER-ADL is all Y aircraft with VA so that’s a killer for me. We would just look at QF revenue or points Dom flight
That's a good idea since PER-MRU is 60,000 in J whereas any other Australian city to MRU is 80,000 - you can then easily add a stopover in PER if you wish. However, I don't believe it makes any difference mileage-wise what city you depart from if you go through to Europe with a stopover (++ 5000 miles) in MRU.

I've also noticed in the past few weeks - very few EY awards come up and SQ seems scarcer than when first launched as a partner.

When considering buying additional miles in this promotion, I noticed that some bloggers are predicting an AC devaluation (but of that happens with all programs). Also at 220,000 miles return to Europe in J - that's about $AUD 4500 + taxes and fees (with very steep change and cancel fees now applying) - and some business class "deals" starting to pop up .... maybe too much invested in AC (or any airline program which sells points at a reasonable cost) may not be a great idea. Still thinking it over.

Hopefully not too soon on any devaluation. The last one came into effect 1 September 2022. Would be quite soon for another.

There are some deals popping up to Europe and USA, but aeroplan offers incredible flexibility, and combined with stopovers can give you a multi-stop RTW for $200 over a direct return.

There's a temporary error where EY are not releasing any J to any partners except a couple of super shorthaul routes. They should come back. SQ look normal to me.

But I agree with the rest of your post. Buying miles is a borderline breakeven proposition with risk of devaluation, disappearance of availability, etc. I only use AP because I can earn large numbers of miles through US credit card earn. I certainly wouldn't be buying them.

On another forum it’s been mentioned that someone spoke to AC staff who advised that EY would no longer be releasing J availability. Only Y availability now. Who knows if that is correct

Interesting. That would be a huge loss for Aeroplan, particularly for us in Australia, as it was a huge sweet spot with amazing availability to Europe and back.
