Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

For some reason, it took about 24 hours, but it has deposited. And straightway booked Bamboo airways MEL-SYD-SGN for Christmas eve. The SYD-SGN sector still has 2 J reward seats if anyone is looking.

On a side note, is it not possible to select seats with Bamboo airways?
Well done! Was it 90,000 pts pp for that itinerary?

I was hoping to buy points today but couldn't work out if it's worth buying so I get 90,000 as it's only 80% bonus.

It was 45k pp oneway + AUD165 in taxes.
Booked for two ppl and at 80% bonus, it set us back AUD1968.

Works out to be AUD 1150 or so for one way pp. Scoot is selling oneway economy for AUD950 for those dates, so it worked out for us.

It's a very good deal for J.

Just thought I'd mention Air Canada has launched their Black Friday deals for Aeroplan members where you get to select from one of three offers, including a 5% points back on flight redemptions:

Good to see the points landed!

I take it is MEL > SYD is on Virgin Australia in J? If so, hopefully you'll enjoy the Melbourne Virgin business lounge.

Seat selections on partners is possible, albeit sometimes not via Air Canada's website. What you should first try doing is taking the booking reference number and heading over to Bamboo Airways, clicking my Bookings, entering the booking reference and your last name and seeing if you can do a seat selection there. If for some reason that works, you should be able to contact Aeroplan and they'll be able to sort the seat situation out for you. If you are curious where to sit on your flight, your best bet is SeatGuru.

Of course, this offer comes up just after I make the redemption :D

Yes, that is correct! Actually the hardest part seems to finding VA reward seats at the time than Bamboo reward seats.

Yes, I was able to get the VA and Bamboo reference numbers using CheckMyTrip. However, the VA reference number doesnt open up in VA and Bamboo reference number opens but doesnt let me select seats. I have emailed Bamboo airways as Aeroplan said they dont access to the seating.

Choosing seats in Vietnam Airlines on a paid ticket was hard enough. If Bamboo is anything similar it can be hard online. Calling and emailing seems to give surprisingly good and fast responses, at least for VN!

Hi All
Is it worth Buying Bouns Aeroplan points when on sale to purchasing normal business class seats with points with its Star Alliance airline partners like Singapore Airlines?

Cheers
Lewis
IMHO Yes, I've used it for short legs on SQ business class like BKK to MNL.

I have never bought aeroplan miles before. Looking at buying miles for a J trip to Asia in February next year. I have seen limited availability but some on Thai. Can I buy miles using my account and then use these to buy a ticket for my parents?

Edit - if my calculations are correct, it's working out to about 1k AUD one way from Mel - SIN/BKK which is cheaper than Alaska at the moment.

You can use the miles for anyone. Within reason. (Airlines monitor accounts for potential fraud or bartering.)

Around $1000 sounds right, largely due to the poor aussie dollar.

But compared to the current asking price for a paid ticket there can be some reasonable savings.

That should not be a problem as I've used Aeroplan miles several times already to book flights for my parents. Remember to register for Air Canada's Black Friday offer so you get 5% back in Aeroplan points on the points redeemed for that trip.

Anyone having problems registering? I choose the 5% rebate, enter my FF#, click the "Register now' button but nothing happens. I can see in my web browser that it attempts to do something (status bar bottom right of window), but not confirmation of choice is presented.

Well I can’t buy any points after two failed attempts. First using my 28 Degrees with my Australian address but with a US zip, second with a legitimate US based address. Both transactions were cancelled by points.com after a couple of days

It seems that others have processed successfully using 28 Degrees. Any tricks that I’m missing?

I gave up on 28degrees after 2 attempts. First time, I got a text message from 28deg saying a transaction by points(dot)com was declined by the merchant. It asked me to reply 1 if it was me. I did that, but made no difference on the second attempt (no text message this time, just the standard error)
Ended up using a Citi global currency debit card. This went through with no issues although the processing time was about 24 hours.

Thanks aaa99. The window is quickly closing (3pm) today Eastern Australian time before the points promo finishes, so I might have to suck up the 3% international FX fees on another card.

I hadn't seen these comments before I went to buy points today (closes 4pm AEDT). Using 28 Degrees Latitude card, with usual Aussie address etc. Transaction sailed though, with miles straight into Aeroplan account and e-mail receipt received.

I later got a call from 28 Deg asking me to confirm the transaction as legit, which I did.

Hopefully this won't reverse!

I haven’t had any issues with 28 degrees before, at least with buying miles/points.

My Amex purchase processed fine. Perhaps I should have just entered my correct Australian address for the 28 Degrees card instead of using an American ZIP as someone else mentioned upthread. Getting too smart for my own good.

AA has the requirement to a US address via its US site. I have not needed one for Aeroplan/Air Canada.

I assumed you were actually domiciled in the US and had changed your CC address to there!

Just playing around with the search engine; does anyone know why NRT-SGN-MEL prices at 90k while ICN-SGN-MEL comes in at 60k?
