Thanks to an idea from Lindsay Wilson over in the Playground, I'm proposing the 'First Annual AFF Poker Tournament' to take place in the first quarter of 2012.

Anyone interested? It'll most likely be a tournament style, no-limit holdem event, hosted at my place (pending housemate approval and dates).

This came about for a) my love of the game and b) I love having an excuse to have a poker night. I can also help with the dealing if people just want to play (although even if I do deal, i'm going to be playing as well, so, look out!).

Proposal is to charge everyone say $20-30 or so, and split the money up between the winners. If people want a trophy, perhaps we can take some cash out of the pool to fund a prize (or perhaps some kind of FF related paraphernalia bought or donated?).

Thoughts welcome before anything is firmed up. This would take place on a Saturday evening at a guess, allowing any out-of-staters to jet in for the evenings competition.

If I am in town certainly count me in!

Which city/state are you located in Drewbles???

As always a bit harder/more costly for us West Coast folks but not a bad idea...

I'm in, with the usual proviso's as everybody else. I'd be happy to arrange the Cup and/or some goodies (for all table players). Great to see you run with the idea drewbles.

Now, can we get Tony G or similar to give us some pre-match pointers?

If you are going to do that, crown offer a private table service with food, drinks and dealer... I think thats about $110 per head or similar

Works out to be $25 per person per head... PER HOUR. That's no prizes either, that's just the dealer. If you want it in the 'high limit' area (more private) it's more expensive.

And why bother, i'm a professionally trained dealer ;)

I'm in Melbourne. It's great to see so much interest.

A hotel may be possible, but carting a poker table in may look a little dodgy (I have a full sized oval poker table, not one of the little fold up ones). I like to do things right when it comes to casino games:)

So we have a good potential line up. More EoI's wanted. Will try and firm up something for probably mid-late Feb, work travel requirements pending.

Also, if people could suggest ideas for buy-in's or prizes, I'm happy to spend $100 or so for a buy in, but not everyone is happy putting that much on the line. If there's only 10 or so of us, it's quite easy to have a few games in a night (just set the blinds a little faster) and a few different limits. Depending on how long, maybe even a 'satellite' to win your way through?

So many options :)

Just an FYI a friend had a poker night for his bucks night in a NSW Pub/Hotel and they weren't happy with cash flowing around due to gaming laws.

Provided it falls on the right Sat evening, I would be interested.

Eol's ???

I've got a number of items to put up and think we can get further items from interested parties. I'll give further details by the end of next week

Interesting. There's no problem with playing for cash, providing the 'house' does not take a cut (at least in VIC).

The company I work for regularly does 'buy in optional' tournaments, where 100% of the buy-in's are returned to the players.

We would do exactly the same. I think getting prizes arranged via donations from perhaps say DJ or QF (There's one question for the lunch for me next week ;)) And of course, Lindsay Wilson is generously offering to arrange something which i'll gladly accept.

It should be fair that the winner gets cash and airline related goodies. It is, after all, an AFF Poker Night.

Cool - just didn't want anyone to get tripped up- enjoy guys _ i don't play poker or live in MEL so I am out of this thread.

id be interested, promise i wont drive given my breakdown today enroute to aff#5

I would be interested by the distance to travel makes it unlikely. I could be on that side of the country on Friday Feb 3 so if it was that week it may be possible.
