We're pleased to announce that the 2024 AFF annual gathering will be held in Brisbane, the sunny capital of Queensland!

The weekend of Friday 18 - Sunday 20 October 2024 has been chosen for the event. As per past years, there will be a welcome dinner on the Friday evening, optional activities on Saturday and a main dinner on Saturday evening. There may also be an optional activity on Sunday in the late morning.

All AFF members (and +1's, etc.) are welcome to attend. Most people usually fly in on Friday afternoon and leave on the Sunday afternoon/evening.

Your lead organisers for this year's event are @NM and @QF WP. Other Brisbane-based members are also welcome to volunteer to assist.

We'll update this thread over the coming months with more information about the planned activities, dinner venues and costs, which we expect to be similar to past gatherings. There will be a $5 registration fee per participant, plus the cost of any activities and/or meals that you choose to join.

For now, please feel free to let us know in this thread if you think you'll be able to make it! For those unfamiliar with the AFF terminology:

  • "Platinum" means you're planning to attend and have booked flights/accommodation
  • "Gold" means you're likely to attend but will need to confirm at a later time
  • "Silver" means you're unlikely to attend at this stage.
  • "Bronze" means you're unable to attend.

The AFF Leadership Team can provide support in terms of money collection and distribution, and editing this thread as needed. If something needs to be updated, please simply report the post with the update so anyone on the team can action it (starting a conversation only alerts one person).

We're looking forward to seeing you all in Brissie!

Welcome to posting on AFF!

There are a few Perth-based members such as @JohnM, @Daver6, @cove and others who sometimes get together. Perhaps you could start another thread in the Meetings & Social Events forum to get the ball rolling on the next Perth-based catch up :)
I think I just might...let me see what I can do...I will say...I am probably an amateur compared to most folks on here...but I want to learn! Especially since my goals are to have regular family trips to the US, as well as family trips from Perth to the best direct flight locations I can go to.

Totally fine, everyone has to start somewhere :)

If you want to learn, you've come to the right place. Most members are very generous with sharing what they know. I'm sure others will also be interested to hear about your experiences.

Been part of AFF for a long time, but never really posted, but I've recently stepped up my redemption game and credit card game in the last 2 years since I was living in California. I'm a US expat that has relocated to Perth, WA with Aussie wife and toddler kiddo. Looking to network with the FF community because I feel like I really like this hobby of FF and credit card and point strategy. In any event, I would like to know if there are any other fellow Perthites, and if you ever get together on the side of the country? I am wanting to know the low-down on all things Aussie credit card, FF, and point strategies.
Also Perth based, been to a couple of meetups

Best we get that explorer @JohnM to drop his excursions and work on socializing. I think the last AFF get together that we went to was at the Ritz Carlton.
Now @derf we do live part time in Marina del Rey CA so we use Kris Miles to get there out of Perth. It is a long cut to go via Singapore and Narita but it works for us.
Most recently we flew AA and my seat could not power my Resmed sleep machine so won’t be doing that again.
St George credit card gets us Kris Miles but the conversion rate has dropped.

excellent, I take it that you travel back and forth at some frequency? would love to learn how that works? to be quite honest, i wouldn't mind that sort of setup, chasing the sun and summer...not a bad way to go about life...

We were living in Old Towne Orange the last year before we moved over to Perth. Let;s get a catchup going. would love to learn more about the credit card points game here in Australia.

I am also looking to refinance my investment mortgage to personal mortgage at some point, so i have to be very selective and careful with what credit I take on to not impact my future loan apps

Well @derf we avoid humidity so it is not likely for us to go to Brisbane. We are going to Adelaide for a week tonight and that city should be dry and hot.
See if @JohnM and @Daver6 are around as they drink the good stuff.
Come on Cove. We are cutting our cruise short and flying in from NZ. You can do it!

Platinum. I am a local in Brisbane so I can attend the event for the first time! :-)

What is the likely location in Brisbane for this event?
Welcome to AFF! I see you're also from the Northside? The activities are usually in the city around the various accommodation but keep an eye out for the schedule in post #2 above...

What is the likely location in Brisbane for this event?
Dinners etc. will be central (think City, Fortitude Valley, Southbank, West End). Saturday "excursion activities" still being considered, but expect meeting point to be CBD hotel locations(s) with transport arranged from there.

Platinum for me.. GC boy but coming up for the weekend.
Newbie and First catch up..... looking forward to it.

Flights from OOL to BNE are sooo expensive...!! lol

Also, there seems to be alot of peeps attending...
Are you sure you dont want to book Boondall Entertainment Centre for dinner....??? Just sayin..
