It's time to decide where the next gathering is going to be held, and after that when. If we don't, time will pass us by and it'll be too late. I've added what I think were the contenders to a poll, your choice will be visible to others, and please speak up if you can offer a hand (pending dates) in organising activities at a particular location.

I haven't had a very good attendance track record - the last one I was able to attend in full was AFF #4 (with an appearance at AFF #6, and work got in the way of AFF #5 and AFF #7) so not sure about my voting credentials.

I've put Sydney because I've never had an opportunity to go to a gathering here before. MEL is a close second. Almost no chance of me attending CNS, ASP or PER as they'll all require time off work and past experience dictates that work will probably interfere :)

At this stage I'm refraining from voting as I'm undecided. It's a hard choice. We could complete capital cities, we could avoid repeating cities, we could choose CNS :p I'm not against CNS, I'm just not sure.

Regardless, there's 10 days to decide.

Hmmmm. Hard to decide. The timing would definitely dictate whether I would prefer to be in MEL or CNS for example.

PER would be out for me, that's the only one I'm clear on yet :)

I think a return to MEL or SYD could be a lot of fun. There hasn't been a full weekend event in either city for quite a few years. AFF#3 in Sydney (2009) and OzFest#4 in Melbourne (2007).

CNS is also an option, however would require taking some time off work for many of us.

I will go anywhere except Alice... Having 2 dos in the same place within 6 months of each other seems silly to me... Why is that even an option?

I like the idea of CNS, but flights can be quite pricey which would prevent some people travelling. Also, as Penegal says, a day or two off work required to make the most of a full weekend. Have to think about this one a bit....

At appoximately what date ?
Smaller regional cities like Newcastle, Ballina (Byron Bay) or Townsville (Magnetic Island) are another possiblty

I'm likely to only attend a MEL or SYD event to be honest. Definitely not CNS or BNE though, and doubtful for ASP either.

At appoximately what date ?

In the past a venue has been chosen before a date. But I'd imagine anywhere between mid-year if things progressed fast to December, when the last event was held. Gatherings have usually been around October. Depends what city/town is chosen as to what date would suit best, due to climate and events happening. ;)

For example it was mentioned Cairns would have a finance ministers meeting around the usual time, possibly increasing security, closing roads, increasing hotel costs etc. It would perhaps be too hot in December, as would Melbourne be too cold in July. If a date is chosen first, you're limited in what locations you would enjoy, but choosing a location first you then work out a date that suits the location.

They are too, but don't recall them being raised at the end of the last gatherings thread. I just picked the front runners. Bare in mind I can only list 10 poll choices and there's got to be easily more than that number of locations we could host a gathering.

is this like a big lets get together and drink lots?? sounds interesting...

Not completely. A usual weekend will consist of welcome drinks, followed by an affordable dinner. Activities the next day to showcase the chosen location, followed by drinks and dinner at somewhere less affordable, perhaps with special guests, giveaways, etc, and the next day perhaps a brunch or golf or more activities before people fly home. New and old are welcome to attend, and past gatherings have been a lot of fun, and rewarding in numerous ways.

I don't drink alcohol :p ...

These events generally involve drinks, food, sightseeing, activities, , etc as well as plenty of travel related discussion.

Having never been to CNS (never been further North in Qld than whichever of the QP or J lounge is further so) I've voted for it.

Don't like MEL as I cannot fly there (OK, I guess i can fly somewhere, then fly back, but really...) :p

My views probably don't count for a lot, but may I suggest the option 'anywhere tuapekestar doesn't want to go' :)

(He should know why!)

SYD or MEL would be a good choice.

I really need to get along to a few more of these events. I won't vote for now as I am not sure I could attend as September-December is going to be very hectic this year.

As a relative newbie I wasn't sure I should, but I have voted for Sydney. But I am like JohnK - Sept-Oct is going to be crazy, with work, a daughter getting married etc. But if held in Sydney I would try to put in appearance just to put a few faces to the cryptic names!

Any member should vote if they want to come along, it's open to all and how long you've been a member here shouldn't mean anything! :)
