Wow, thanks for the response guys. Certainly looks like I've started something ...

There must be squillions. :)

Exactly, which is why I think we might need to define the word "classic" a bit more. When you broaden the horizons and start talking travel loosely you could have an infinite list, so maybe it's best to just stick to "flying" songs. I'll go through the additions at some stage and update my secondary post with all the flying songs, unless there is public outcry at a haphazard change of policy! (Queue Yes, Minister quote - "Policy on the run, is policy underdone")

Nah, I was gunna suggest some tightening of the eligibility criteria...certainly a good idea to restrict it to flying IMHO. :)

Agreed ... "flying" songs only from here on and I will narrow the above list down in the next 24 hours and insert into post #2.

You and I - Celine Dion. This song was recently used in ads for Air Canada.

If we're going down that road, then I for one would be horrified if anyone included Shine - Vanessa Amorosi in this collection. Last ad before the death of a carrier.

Unlike AN, AC doesn't look like it's going South (you know what I mean!) any time soon.

And unlike Shine, You and I actually has some pertinence to flying. The music video reflects this (it was apparently shot at YYZ).

Gin Wagmore- Under My Skin.

Related to flying as it is used by Air NZ in their risque safety demonstration videos that came out some time last year;)

...not just the carrier

(tis a shame Mark Holden changed the lyrics...)

All a bit modern for me.

If it's down to flying, how about "The Flight of the Bumble Bee"

I guess you'll have to add a few golden oldies, ie.,

"Come fly with me." Cranky Franky, for Juan Trippes' long gone PAN AM.

"Up, Up, and away." The Fifth Dimension, for T.A.A.

Then there's always The B-52's........................

Cheers Dee

I am surprised that "Fly me to the moon" have not crop up yet!

At the Star Mega Do on our stop in OSL, a beautiful SAS hostess performed a lovely rendition of Fly Me To The Moon (Frank Sinatra) whilst emerging from door 1R of a SAS 737.

At the conclusion of our OSL stop, the same hostess performed another song, this time Cry Me A River (Ella Fitzgerald), using the right wing of the 737 as her stage.

(Yes I realise that both songs have been heavily covered and the artists I've mentioned only sang covers; they aren't the "originals")

B52's - Roam
Patsy Gallant - From New York to L.A.

Thanks to Ansett I have these songs stuck in my mind..
Enya - Storms in Africa
Simply Red - Fairground

Of course, 'ole blue eyes and Come Fly With Me is probably the best ;)

The *hugely* ironic part is that Vanessa actually wrote that song for a friend who committed suicide.

I still liked the song :)

'The Wings of an Eagle' -Russell Morris
'Arrival' - Abba
'Eagle' - Abba
'Fly Me High' - The Moody Blues
'Magic Carpet Ride' - Steppenwolf
'Learning to Fly' - Pink Floyd
'Mighty Wings' - Cheap Trick
'Flying Over Africa' - John Barry ( from the 'Out of Africa' soundtrack)
'Airport' - The Motors

I'm thinking we might have to put together a dance/electronic/house compile for some of us 'younger' status chasers... and to start off with:

Infernal - From Paris to Berlin
Massive Attack - Weather storm

Sweet, delicious irony how I love thee
