I remember the inaugural 10,000 post thread a couple of years ago, not long after I joined AFF, that was the catalyst for these contests. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on AFF reading, and continuing to read, so much useful information. I also hope that through all the static I have also been able to contribute some useful information back to AFF.

The 100,000th post I think will be one of the most important milestones for AFF to date. To celebrate this occassion there are some fantastic prizes on offer so I would like to see as many members as possible participate for a chance to be in the running.

1st prize - 12 month AFF Gold subscription (donated by admin)
2nd prize - 12 month AFF Silver subscription (donated by admin)
Predicting who posts the 100,000th post - Silk ties (donated by Ric)
Novelty prize - 12 month AFF Silver subscription (donated by admin)

If the winner is already a GOLD/SILVER member then they will get the next 12 months free.

For first prize the closest guess to actual post time will win first prize - regardless of whether the guess is earlier or later than the posting time. Winner will have name engraved in Winner's Podium honour roll.

The runner up prize will be for the next closest guess to actual post time, again regardless of whether the guess is earlier or later than the posting time.

For this contest there will also be a sub contest to predict the actual member who will post the 100,000th post. There will be a list of the most prolific posters to choose from and everyone is allowed to choose up to 5 members in order of preference. The winner will be the person whose first preference will post the 100,000th post. If more than one person has predicted the correct member with their first preference then the closest time & date to the actual 100,000th post will be declared the winner. If no one has selected the member to post the 100,000th post with their first preference then their second and subsequent preferences, highest preference takes precedence, will be taken into consideration and again if more than one person has predicted the correct member then the closest time & date to the actual 100,000th post will be declared the winner. For obvious reasons you are not allowed to choose yourself as the poster of the 100,000th post.

There is also a novelty prize on offer for the person who has the furthest guess from the actual 100,000th post. So you are still in the running for a prize even if you were not able to predict a time close to the 100,000th post. In order to be eligible to win this prize your guess must not be more than 1 week either side of the actual 100,000th post and the winner will be the furthest guess from the actual post but within this time frame. This is to stop people with ridiculous predictions, like 21 February 2009, winning the novelty prize.

Dates & Times are AEDST. To make it interesting, all predictions must be entered by midnight (23:59:59), AEDST, Sunday 20 January 2008. Deleted posts do not count, only actual posts!

Please select up to 5 members you think will post the 100,000th post.

NM, JohnK, serfty, oz_mark, simongr, Dave Noble, Lindsay Wilson, Mal, straitman, Yada Yada, Shano, QF009, Evan, dajop, Reggie, odoherty, BlacKnox, thadocta, littl_flier, markis10, Altair, Febs, clifford, d15.in.oz, Maca44, danielribo, bigjobs, Flashware, cssaus, tuapekastar, futaris, Commuter, danielh, Tiki, drron, jasonja3, Damien, garyjohn951, Skyring, maninblack, arun, one9, jakeseven7, bambbbam2, lovetravellingoz, Alan in CBR, v8Statesman, infoworks, kpc, codash1099, acampbel, SeatBackForward, icemann, Chucksta, sully, StevePER, Platy, aubs, Tooner, Robert Barlow, NYCguy, redrat, Soundguy, wallacej, vt01, Groundfeeder

I have listed all members with >200 posts. If name is not on list then you can either choose other as one of your choices or type in the actual name of the member. Please remember that you cannot choose yourself.

I will declare the winners of all categories shortly after the 100,000th post so if anyone has any questions please post them in this thread ASAP and I will try to answer them for you.

Good luck to all.

Whoa this one looks big. Since the deadline isn't anytime soon I would have to have a long hard think about this one before submitting a prediction. :)

.... as is everybody else ;)

After the last competition effort I might as well stick the calendar to the wall and throw a dart at it.

Given how good I am at darts I may need a few attempts just to hit any date

Hey that's my line :!:

I'm going to go in very early on this one....

I'm picking Feb 1 @ 19:45 (SYD Time).

My five posters:

serfty
oz_mark
futaris
Flashware
Other

Keep in mind that the competition technically doesn't close until Jan 20th, so plenty of time left to make more studied (and accurate) choices than mine...

Good on you Mal. Always there to get the ball rolling. I don't think you will be too far off the mark although the festive season may slow down the current post rate!

As I have not had any queries I am guessing that the rules of the contest are relatively clear to all involved. Again good luck to all....

I think the rules are clear to Aussies familiar with the Oz electoral system - to those of us who come from a simple first pas the post system it does seem awfully complex ;)

Given that there is a prize for teh posting of the actual 100,000th post I can see an exponential increase in posting close to the end ;)

What happens if one of those ones listed doesn't write the 100,000th post.

The adverts aren't too bad here; and FT adverts were ok until the place sold out then the adverts come thick and fast.

There is an option to choose other which covers all members not listed! Also it does not have to be a member on that list you can pick any member even a member who has registered but has not posted yet or even a member who has not joined AFF yet. ;) I only included the members with >200 posts for reference purposes. Just remember you cannot pick yourself.

Having the prizes for this 100000th post and guessing who make the 100000th post may bring some lurkers into the fold as regitered users.

Thats got to be good for the community and admin.

Using MFF Ads can be blocked, so are optional, whether on AFF or FT.

And using a USB drive, they can be sorted in QP's and other locations as well.

You just never know one of those lurkers may become a regular poster and provide useful information for the whole community.

If I vote for others doesn't that mean I would be voting for myself and doesn't that give you a greater chance of getting the correct answer. Or is the list of users with great than 200 posts have a great chance of writing the 100,000th post.

I guess we could add up those top users with >200 posts and see how many posts in total they make on AFF as a whole.
