TAM have just joined OW so now there is a OW option of flying GRU - JNB - I think this is the first time there has been a direct OW connection between Sth America and Africa.
Opens up an alternative route to JNB from the USA other than via LHR on BA
 
Interesting - but too late for me, sadly. You'd also want to be reasonably determined to do that itinerary to fly TAM. Mind you, I flew LAN quite a bit within South America and they were very good -- certainly head and shoulders above other Latin American airlines such as Aerolineas Argentinas.

The LAN-TAM merger is a very good move in this respect.

I think MH used to fly KUL-JNB-GRU or something like that in the past though.

Interesting. In theory that should open up xONE3 itineraries from the southern hemisphere. Changes to the oneworld rule sheet (to at least include US as a possible carrier) should be imminent.
