Hi AFFers,

I'm looking for some advice from AFFers who fly regularly within China. I'm looking at flying Beijing - Shanghai on either Air China or China Eastern. Which airline is better? They're both exactly the same price.

Thanks

Basically no difference internally - it's only a 2 hour flight - go with whichever schedule suits you better - if you can earn points go with that airline.

If after considering above - still neck and neck - maybe Air China. Personally I think China Eastern FA's bit sweeter - b ut hey it's still only a 2 hour flight.

Make sure you choose correct airport to arrive into - Pudong is a long way from Hongqiao but I guess you already knew that.

I'd go Air China - often bigger planes on that route and less likely (marginally) to be delayed. Both airlines are fine though

If you have a choice for China Southern Airlines, go with them. I have found them much better than China Eastern Airlines.

Bear in mind that a larger plane could translate into a bigger headache should the flight be delayed or cancelled (as is common flying domestically in China).

Have always flown air china never had any problems. have been delayed once but then i am delayed every time i fly out of sydney.

I've only flown China Eastern in J. They were ok but nothing to rave about. Lounges were disgraceful. They do offer QFF points if that is a factor.

I've also flown China Southern a couple of times, I was impressed. I'm flying with them again in just over a month.

If you fly between PEK-SHA, then china eastern is your best choice. This route is the golden business route in China, all 3 major airlines operate more than 50 flights daily but China eastern provides the most flights, every 30 mins during the peak and 1 hr afterwards. The service is also the best compare with the other two.
