I regret not purchasing via Orbitz, done a few error fares through them, never an issue.

Didn't come up as an option in IWTF, i should have done a check on momonondo before booking

You can start with Consumer Affairs in your state. That's a free service and they'll tell you the law from a consumer rights point.

It looks like this was a TA that allows you to book, but doesn't confirm (or ticket) instantly. When they went to ticket the fare was no longer available. It might be somewhere in their terms and conditions that this is the way they operate, so you might want to have a look and be armed with that knowledge before calling consumer affairs.

Even if Consumer Affairs sides with you, it might still mean small claims. Which may not be all that quick a path.

Yep I have been issued a ticket number - starting with 086. It appears that my fare has been honoured due to having a ticket number and being able to edit my booking on the AirNZ flight. Looking through other forums I think anyone that booked through Expedia will have their ticket honoured.

Can anyone make a suggestion on where I should credit the flights? I'm currently a VAGold however VA only offer status and points earn on the Trans-Tasman leg. I'm more looking for a program to transfer to for redemption purposes as I have a large stash of Amex points that I could possibly transfer to that program as well to make a redemption.

I think the change to trans tasman earn only comes into effect on November 1st. Anything booked before then can be redeemed on VA.

That's my understanding but I could be wrong. However if you are already VA Gold I don't see the need going for platinum.
Perhaps look at Singapore Airlines for some krisflyer miles if it's allowed or if you frequent the US, maybe United Airlines as they are also Star Alliance.

I lucked out - flights have been cancelled. I was going to credit to SQ, then convert to VA

Did mine through Amex still not issued, spoke to Amex they are not sure yet if ANZ will honour, I doubt they will bu lets wait and see.

Cancelled on Expedia AU. I would have been one of the first to book around 4am so seems like all will be cancelled.

Note how NZ's statement to agents includes reference to online sites promoting the "mistake". People - including some of the blogs like Scummy Flying - that using such terminology only helps justify the airlines' position when they cancel.
