Does the above mean that Qantas will have similar issues when it starts the same service in June next year?

QF aircraft type/seating is not the same as Air NZ.
QF has experience with ultra long haul over the pacific. MEL-DFW is due to start later in the year. At times QF have stopped in Fiji for a fuel top up.

Looks like Air NZ will only be giving a checked baggage allowance of 1x 23kg bag to Economy passengers flying from Australia to JFK via AKL, for tickets issued on/after 6 October 2022.

It's not clear to me whether extra allowances for passengers with Airpoints/Star Alliance status will still be honoured, but I would assume so.

Hasn't that always been the allowance for AirNZ to the USA from NZ? Or do you mean it's no longer possible to purchase extra bags?

The current allowance is 2 bags for long-haul Y ex Australia to/from USA. (I've edited the post above to make it more clear that this is for ex Australia bookings.)

For bookings ex. NZ it is already 1 bag.
