This seems like a great system. Can anyone advise what the price for the UTO and ESO appears to be on the SYD-KUL route?

$34 for ESO, $119 for UTO.

I have requested the UTO for my girlfriend and I for our flights in July MEL-KUL-MEL, hope I get lucky! I tried to get out of them if it made a difference how early you paid the fee and selected UTO and if the upgrades were based on this or if it was a lucky dip, but they wouldn't tell me how it worked. Hope I am top of the list as I booked in the upgrades as soon as I bought the flights which was 6 months before the trip.

I've used the Optiontown UTo many times with both Malaysian and Air Asia X.

50% upgrade success on MH, and 30% on Air Asia. Much better value with AirAsia because the upgrades don't cost nearly as much, and the seats between MH and AAX are essentially the same... recaro angle flat seats. With AAX, you obviously don't get a meal, lounge access, and have to use the hideous LCC terminal at KUL, but other than that its a very good product.

Just flew AAX last night from KUL to SYD. We were a party of 2A and 2C. I requested ESO at time of purchase but only received confirmation about 5 hours before take-off. At the airport check in, they hand wrote that we had three rows ie. all up 9 seats for the 4 of us on the boarding passes. That allowed us to spread out a bit throughout throughout the flight. Will definitely try ESO and UTO in the future again. Quite worth it.

If you can't buy a seat, then I suspect you can't get ESO.

FWIW I was denied the UTO on thursday night, but granted ESO (and I only put in for ESO at T-5hrs when I saw there were no more premium seats available). They just hand wrote on the boarding pass I had 3 seats, but once I got to the preboarding area at LCCT they put a sticker on it. No problems with poachers because I immediately spread junk all over the seats :)

We got the UTO upgrade 6 days before departure from MEL to KUL.
Both UTO and ESO were declined on the return leg however there were so many seats available, we managed to both end up in a row of 3 each.
Do ensure you chase them up if you don't get your refund as promised 5 days after the flight.
