Well good luck to all who might try, based on my own experience:

1. The website may well be unable to handle the traffic;

2. If and when you finally get a quote, you may well find that the "specials" have evaporated.

It's the Air Asia way of doing business..

Not that any other LCC is any different.

You'd be surprised.

I find that Ryanair (oh, golly, gosh!) is usually much more up front with its promos. What they say is what you get.

BTW, just looked at the Air Asia website for OOL-KUL-OOL in Jul. Not a discount to be seen. How surprising!

Got Mel - KL - Bkk - Hong Kong return in September for $510 and Mel - KL - Bkk return in Nov for $400. I have found their mobile site easier to access then their web.
Recently I used their new Iphone app which was also easier then the web.

Hope those sectors to hong kong are stopovers... Otherwise that's alooooong way around for a saving of only a few hundred $:!:

Nice work on the bkk trip.

Nice work on the bkk trip.

KL is a transit stop and I'm stopping over in Bkk so its not too bad.
I've also purchased the upgrade 'lottery' for the Mel - KL - Mel legs...fingers crossed.
Actually in the past I have gotton Bkk return for even less $250 - $300 but I figure $400 is still pretty good for November.
Happy travels.

OOL-KUL return for September-October 2011 is ~$550 all in including bulkhead seat, luggage and golf clubs....

20% off all seats (including premium). 12 Sept - 16 Nov 2011.

Not impressed with AirAsia sales. Distinct lack of sale airfares intra asia in December (relative to last year), and just 25% more gets me MH. General impression average airfare is up 25% since beginning of the year.

Both Air Asia and Jetstar have steadily increased their fares all year leading into peak periods, so much so that in many cases full service carriers are cheaper.

It seems the days of $58 and $99 one way sale fares are long gone.

To be fair though, the current demand for air travel is very high and pushing all flight fares up. I believe 1 in 3 Australians has gone overseas in the past 12 months, and with the strong AUD stilll hovering high against MOST currencies, demand is going to remain high for a considerable time.

I'm keen to return to Hawaii and soak up some sun but I afford to pay $1k return sale fares ;) when in the past three flights with JQi, I have paid $290, $500 and $710 (with one way in StarClass).

Could be that the sale is for travel from 12 September to 16 November.

Well said MrMaxWell.
But we are not comparing apples with apples here: The lucrative business of flight 'changes' diminishes with shorter lead times, so I expect a LCC to be about 1/2 price, given I may not be traveling on that date.

Air Asia just junk mailed me with a Are you ready for it sale 2am 21 Sept coming up, hopefully without severe
date restrictions. I might have booked a hotel with Tune, but no deal until the price is right.

I like flying 25-29 December because the tickets should be cheap then. Everyone rushes to be somewhere before Xmas or NewYears, and the in between dates can be lightly loaded indeed ( Missing a party, or relatives is unthinkable- almost - and going in the middle bit means expensive peak priced hotel rooms). Looks like the country that heavied Jetstar is also encouraging AirAsia not to discount or a little price fixing.. OTOH $200 to London in comparison is dirt cheap.

In 2 days we'll see if AirAsia likes the 50-100 seats full in an A330 business model - year on year - bad dates don't change. The plus is paying $20 extra at checking-in (JQ) and getting a row of seats to lie down on. Wait and see.
