Howdy,

Booked a flight from the AirBerlin website... The flight code is HGxx_x. My Googling leads me to believe this is a FlyNiki operated flight (seems strange it was booked on the AirBerlin website, and Google tells me that the same flight is available with an AB flight name, but, alas).... My Googling also leads me to believe that sine FlyNiki is an associate of OneWorld, not a member, I won't earn any status, points, or have any other OW benefits? Is my understanding correct?

Cheers

So FlyNiki to AirBerlin is like BoganAir to Qantas. I'm sure the Austrians must love that!

Niki is a member affiliate, similar to Dragonair being a member affiliate to Cathay Pacific, so it should have some earning potential.

Jetstar on the other hand is a non-member affiliate.

Correct. See QF airline partner page - no HG codes.

Incorrect, if you view the earning table

Air Berlin (AB) including Air Berlin affiliate Niki (HG)

Seems most booking classes as well:

Oh, thanks for that.

It won't be a lot of points (Class O), but we are doing at least two flights with them, so it'll be better than nothing (and, status credits too).

The QF website is seriously ****.

I swear yesterday, the AirBerlin page said it needed an AB flight number.

For most benefits you have to call.
You cannot do the seat reservation online and most agents have no clue.

Seat reservation does not work during the booking process (they want to charge you for that). So do not reserve a seat there if you are Gold or above.

Sometimes you get a seat automatically assigned. When you log into your QFF account the AB booking should appear.
If you are not happy with the reservation just call to get it changed. You should get the XL-Seats (row 1 and Exit rows) as Plat as well as a seat blocking.

I had a booking of a party of 6. We are on WP, two SG, one PS and two NBs.
The system assigned seats for WP and 2SG automatically. I called AB - the first agent had no clue, but transferred me to their Topbonus Call Centre.
The nice lady had no clue but asked. She had to remove and re-enter the FF-Numbers. Then we all got seat reservations.

The itinary is mixed Niki and Air Berlin.

NB: The brand NIKI will disappear in the near future.

Booking Class: You get miles on all fares buckets but the new "Z" fare - which is the new just fly super cheap fare.

In case you missed it up above, I can confirm that Niki (and probably Air Berlin too) comes up in Your Bookings on the QFF page.

I did make a seat reservation during the booking process for one segment at a cost of 10EUR and during the booking process was served up a total cost of 138EUR.

When the itinerary was emailed out with the invoice a few minutes later, I was only charged 128EUR. It looks like they tap into QF, recognise your Platinum status and drop the charges for seat selection - not your usual LCC tactic!

Seat selection is available through QFF for the segment I originally tried to reserve a seat for, but I get only the aisle/window option for the second segment. Strange behaviour.

For the record, the journey is ARN-VIE-MXP (45 min connection, both E190's, I suspect it's the same plane), and my fare booked into W (discount economy, 0.25x miles)

AB flights come into your My Bookings on the QFF website. Also as a tip, don't select seating untill the booking is made. Then select your seats via the Qantas portal.

If I were you I'd be more stressed about flying on FlyNiki rather than missing points/SCs.
I flew a 2 hour Air Berlin flight soon after they joined OneWorld... as OWE I got no benefits, and couldn't even check in at the Air Berlin 'topbonus' Gold counter! lol

I flew AB (BCN-TXL-ARN) in July. The booking appeared in "My bookings" on QF website, but for some reasons only the seat map for the BCN-TXL leg was showing. So I was only able to select an exit row seat for this leg. I was assigned seat 2A for the TXL-ARN leg...worst leg room ever!!

as OWE I got no benefits, and couldn't even check in at the Air Berlin 'topbonus' Gold counter!
At least in July the AB Priority counter in BCN for Oneworld status PAX was working
