I have been buying ex-NZ fares (one way) for ages as part of a return QF fare. Many savings. There are other tricks as well which aren't appropriate for here...

If Qantas wants to reduce Trans-Tasman fares to simple one way fares, then there is nothing stopping me from taking advantage of their changes. I'm not yet at the point of booking return fares ex-NZ, but I must be fairly close if I work out rough times I might be over there....

(Not that J from NZ is really any chop... The service is no better than BNE-ADL, or similar 3+ hour routes). The last J trip I took from NZ on a 767 had mainscreen entertainment in J  and a very apologetic CSM letting me know she wasn't overly happy with not having personal screens.

I wish they would treat the rest their other international routes as one-way airfares. Purchasing a one-way airfare to some destinations is more expensive than the return airfare.

Try this for some savings... if you are going to SIN!

MEL/SYD-SIN for points 30,000 points + AUD158
SIN-MEL/SIN for SGD607 (468 + 139)

I did this ex MEL last week... (BTW the SIN-MEL fare is of an upgradable class (v)).

As I explained in an earlier thread this is my intention. SYD-SIN 27th December using points 30,000 points + A$197 (unfortunately only routing I can get is SYD-PER-SIN as you can understand hard to get award seats between Christmas and New Year). Need to make sure I book real soon as I don't want to lose the available award seats. Purchase one-way AY economy ticket SIN-BKK for S$170.

Then purchase an AY D class ticket for BKK-SIN-BKK for A$420, return to be used many months later and SIN-SYD-SIN for S$1100, return to be used many months later. Unfortunately prices ex-SIN around New Year's are not that cheap but still a lot cheaper than ex-AUS. The list price SYD-SIN-SYD ex-AUS travelling end December is now A$1500 so still a considerable saving using above logic.

A big plus when buying QF tickets ex-SIN.
