Airfares to US to drop?

Guess the agent never heard of why fly direct when you can connect.

In a country where the vast majority have never had a passport and in some states education is only for the wealthy, then perhaps the quality of staff and relevant knowledge is lacking, let alone an enhanced sense of power trip emboldened by their leader.

There has to be more to that story
There usually is….

We’re flying to/from the US on CX later in the year (all one ticket). Will report back…although I will have entered the US on the same ESTA before then. Off to HNL mid year on QF.

I think the list of things those agents don't know is far longer than the list of knowns..I still remember distinctly biting my tongue when being asked why a civil engineer would be entering the USA heading to Seattle, because there's a lot of other engineers who go to Seattle looking for work.

Smarttraveller just been updatedto reflect comments about entry requirements

Amazes me how the US is still green compared to other countries which have a yellow status, not political at all.

I’d imagine Qantas would reduce its US schedule compared to burning hundreds of millions on low yield flights which would still probably go out empty. The fleet can easily be moved around.

It’s going to be an interesting market to watch that’s for sure.

I think HNL and JFK will be the first to be reduced, particularly if QF think more money can be made on new seasonal European or Asian routes.

Not sure how much LAX could be reduced with the fleet needed to cycle through for maintenance?

This from 2006. I don’t think too much has changed in 20 years ..

QANTAS chairwoman Margaret Jackson has declined an offer by US authorities to lodge a complaint after she was detained on suspicion of being a terrorist at Los Angeles airport last year.

Strict security was normal these days and anyone could expect problems, she said yesterday.

Ms Jackson was found going through airport security with plans of planes. The Herald Sun reported in January she was frisked, and a guard asked why she had them. When told she was an airline chief, the guard said: ''But you're a woman.''

^ To be fair, from what I’ve seen & heard about some airport security staff, that guard was being unusually observant!

20 years ago, American's could cross the Mexico and Canada land borders without a passport. They just needed a birth certificate and/or an "enhanced" drivers license.
Now they need a passport.

Reminds me of the US outbound immigration at YVR last September (@4.30am). My wife, with the exact same travel pattern was cleared to enter the U.S, whereas I was detained in a secure area. My wife was allowed to accompany me. After what seemed an eternity, but was only 45 minutes, I was asked three questions and brusquely told I could go. No explanation. Thankfully we made our flight. Didn’t do anything to entice me to return to the US.

Chicago reportedly lost their 2016 Olympic bid because of how CBP treated the IOC officials at ORD when they visited the city for an inspection ahead of the vote.

I went through inbound US immigration at YYC last week, and it was noticeably quiet. I was asked if I was a drug runner and allowed to pass through.
