A couple of months back I booked a VA flight on points when it got to the payment section it showed nil points and $12.60 in taxes but in US dollars I confirmed the booking received my ticket checked points and none was deducted so booked a heap more trips was great value.

Couple of months back? You sure it wasn't more like six months ago?

When Qantas and Emirates tied up and were "harmonising" their fares, on qantas.com at least, some of the prices to European destinations were all over the shop - both up and down. I didn't make the most of it but I did okay with this trip: Qantas Sydney to LHR in First, British Airways LHR-DUB-LHR in Club Europe and Emirates LGW-DXB-SYD in First all for about $1000 more than the equivalent J fare on offer. If I'd timed it right I reckon I could have scored it for even less.

I only found it because I had a look and a play on the website.
