So I rang Airtrain several times and several operators asking about discounts from point A to B that included public transport stations...... no discounts available under 10 days.

Get here then told GO CARD gets discount...... it's sitting in draw down south..... Not Happy Jan!

I just went to the same guy in the same station tonight to be informed that $10 DEPOSIT for me GO CARD!
Therefore can return card and claim any credit back at end of trip Currently down $2.70 paid last night extra

Another alternative in future is getting the free DFO and Terminals loop bus. From DFO you could get a 590 to Toombul where you change to the other buses (or a walk to the nearby train station) for a connecting service to the city (or wherever you need to go).

Or from DFO you could get the 590 towards Garden City (via Cannon Hill and Carindale) in the other direction...

I think I did this once, maybe twice, and the result is that it adds significantly to travel time and was not worth the effort. Even worse I imagine during summer months due to heat/humidity. The walk to Mascot in SYD is quicker

So today family member produces a GO CARD (NOT their senior) and asks to check credit on it.
Ring find out $59+ via phone call but cannot transfer at station, as has to be done via website
Therefore as per previous posts I was not required to buy a new card as they had it in wallet and did not remember!

Not bad, works out at ~$9.75 per person per trip, a much better price although it really should be the same price as regular fares across the network.

I encourage those purchasing to check if their travel to the Gold Coast (or other locations) is actually cheaper under this promo, especially when connecting to the tram.

Domestic Airport to Surfers Paradise (train and then tram on one ticket purchased via the airtrain website) is $45 for a return ticket.

Meanwhile Domestic Airport to Bowen Hills is $19.50 for a return ticket (on airtrain website) plus a return peak time go card fare from Bowen Hills to Surfers Paradise is $21.72 totalling $41.22. This is a saving of $3.78 on peak and $8.12 off peak.

Yes I appreciate this means you need to touch a go card but I normally do this at Bowen Hills as the go card readers are on the platform so you just step off, touch the card and get back on the same train.

I did this for many years when I was commuting back to Sydney.

A number of years ago airtrain ticket from Toowong to domestic was $23.50! I think you could still buy a book of 10 for $16 each.

Toowong-Central-Domestic took between 45m-60m.

Toowong-Eagle Junction-Toombul-DFO-Domestic took around 90m maybe more with bad connections and cost $2.65 at the time.

To me the extra time costs me nothing other than drinking time in lounge which I can do without. The saving is significant but totally understand how some view the time spent more important.

Today I think differently. Now I take my car and pay extra for long parking.

This is a bit of a blast from the past.

To me, much like you back then, time doesn't cost me a lot, but I always found it to take far too much time to change from train to bus to domestic transfer bus. And like you, I gave up on drinking myself silly in the lounge.

I'm not near a train line anymore anyway, so taking the train is impossible.

Been going for a longtime since after covid I think.
I have used it several times.

Bit annoying using paper ticket or showing phone to guard but it is half price.
Sometimes a mate drops me off but Im still no worse off.
One thing I notice is all the crossrail works are on the weekends when I usually go, and you end up on a rail bus anyway...if it comes....

I'm in QLD but not BNE but do have a Go Card as I visit often enough.

Make sure to be careful if you don’t want to do a $1 donation via airtrain. A recent change to their system sees this $1 extra added by default only removable at the last step.

You don’t need a go card anymore, the same fare is offered for contactless (inc Amex). Just no concessions or children (yet)
