Alaska Airline 40% More Bonus Miles

Without wishing to restart any debates, I'm assuming that tinkybelle is just warning us to be careful what address you use as they might ask for a driving license as verification. If Rooflyer uses his Aussie address but a Canadian Bank Debit Card (with his Aussie address?), then it can't be that issue which flags a "fraud alert" to AS. I think I remember reading elsewhere, this happened to someone in the States but they didn't have a current driving license either so got their points refunded.

If you relocated overseas or just moved house, your address would legitimately change and AS are just asking for verification. If you can't provide it, well they'll shut your account. Would that be a reasonable assumption?

Just for info: My Canadian debit card has a Canadian address, so it breezes through. Basically IIRC what the original kerfuffle was that Alaskan started to decline credit cards with non Nth American addresses on it as they claimed the 'overseas' occasional 'frauds' were too hard to administer/chase. I imagine points.com might charge Alaskan extra for processing 'overseas' cards as well. So its a matter (for Alaskan) of the source of the credit 'risk', not the address of their Miles account holder.

I'd be surprised if changing the address on one's account concerned them, but you might be right.

Anyway, we'll wait and see if the non Nth American cards gate is lifted again.

Do Alaska miles expire?

"A Mileage Plan™ account inactive for 24 months is deactivated and requires a fee to reactivate and reinstate the miles. An account inactive for 36 months will be deleted, and miles cannot be reinstated."

I made a purchase as well with my 28 degrees MC but it hasn't posted the miles. Will have to see if I get the dreaded rejection email.

Got the email this morning. Your purchase has been successful. The miles have been credited to my account, so a bit of a change from last time!

Just bought then, took 2 minutes for email confirmation and miles to post, Australian address on account and Australian credit card (28 degrees MC) with Australian address. Last time the restriction was placed mid promotion so I am getting in early this time just in case.

Thinking of buying miles and doing MEL-HKG-MEL next week. Found availability on CX J using QFF site.

Not much more than Y considering it's $1100AUD at the moment.

Don't forget to check the JL site for this availability. I'm not sure if AS is affected, but that CX availability you find on QFF may not actually be accessible.

Thanks for tip, might need to sign up for JL as well then!

Smart idea

You'd never know when it is 'enhanced' with a new chart.

Australia - South Pacific Awards - Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan

So it seems that for 80k miles you could fly CX MEL- HKG in J then HKG-JFK in F for 80k miles which would cost US$1773.
Might be a goer !

Works out about 25% cheaper than AA miles when AA have a 40% offer.
Too bad I already have a truckload of AA miles...

Do you mean 25% cheaper than AA only when the AS bonus offer is on?

I haven't read this thread for a while so can't remember if AS allow stopovers en route eg BNE/JFK can you stopover more than 24 hours on HKG or YVR?

25% cheaper comparing AS prices under their current promo to AA prices when they had a 40% offer last month.
I'm also keen to know the answer re stopovers

Alaska allows stopovers on one way awards only, given the mileage charts hardly offer a discount for return, booking two one way trips would be the best, for a slightly more expensive redemption with the extra fees.

Booking a DXB-HKG-LAX itin in F for 70K as two single awards is not bad value.

The rules are quite clear: Mileage Plan awards may include one of the following: a one-way, round-trip or open jaw itinerary. One en-route stopover at an eligible city is allowed for each one-way award on international itineraries. An exception allowing an otherwise-illegal open jaw trip is permitted when travel is between the State of Alaska and the lower 48 states and a stopover occurs in Southeast Alaska. When award travel is redeemed solely on Alaska Airlines, one enroute stopover is allowed for each one-way award. One enroute stopover is allowed on a one-way award. Round-trip itineraries with 2 stopovers, or one-way awards with 1 stopover may only be booked through an Alaska Airlines call center. They are not available online. Call center ticketing fees apply.

The approved cities are the hubs in general, I am guessing it was not HKG that you were looking to stopover at?
