Alaska Airlines ALK -Using QF Points

We are currently trying to plan a May-June 2010. Looking to fly back from Anchorage (ANC)or Fairbanks (FAI) to San Francisco (SFO). I can't see any recent experiences of people using award flights. Any tips of best use of points or are we better to just cough up cash.

Recently flew Alaska LAX to YVR using QF FF points, 25K points when the lowest return fare was about $450, a good use of points I think. You have to book via the call centre you cant do it online so there is a points cost to book as well.
