has anyone joined this airline - I was given the opportunity to convert miles from Virgin America and earn a bonus and I can see that it uses less miles to book one world flights.

I'm wondering how easy it is to book with them and would appreciate any advice

thanks in advance

There are a number of people here but pointhacks has a very good guide!

As burmans says, a number here are members - like me.

I love mileage plan. Good value buying miles when bonuses are offered, (unfortunately not as good as when the dollar was near parity), and good selections of airlines to redeem on reasonably cheaply - they go across airline alliances, so you are not stuck with the same mob if you were OneWorld for instance.

Pretty easy to book with them - Cathay and I think one other you have to call them, but when on the line they are easy to deal with; else its book on line.

And they (or at least in their original incarnation) are good to fly on!!

i'm a member.
but i've never flown on an AS plane :)
but as people have alluded to - they offer good value redemption. pity they are not in an alliance, or i would try to build status with them.

Maz1, I posted this on another thread:

Yes and its costs nothing, have to be a member I think for 21 or 30 days before buying miles, they have an additional points offer each 3 months usually 40/50% gratis.

CX award seats have to be found before calling, I find mine 1st on QF, BA or JL has true CX availability.

Some tips, keep in mind buying miles there is a 7.5% on top, easiest award seats to get are out of HKG or too HKG and many are "direct" to numerous USA and European cites. I've found them easy to come by. OZ to HKG been lucky a few times.

Long haul I/we go in J. The phone operators are excellent too but unlike AA you cant put flights on hold then buy miles, so do your homework 1st by checking 1st, spend time finding CX award flights, others you can find on the AS site.

There is an excellent article here on using AS miles.

Brilliant program, those bonus 10K miles are worth around US$200.

Great program for those who travel to/from/within the USA.

Not so relevant for those who only ever fly to London and back.

I joined a while ago but haven't bought any miles as yet, was actually looking at booking with them from Honolulu to Seattle or Vancouver in June and need to do some comparison costs.

Its back on 40% bonus AS miles here

It might be targeted!

Scroll read enjoy...

Just a quick question Limewood....I did join the mileage plan so able to purchase and looking for flights from Honolulu in June to Seattle...have you flown them before? Not sure if I can get a direct flight but interested in any info you may have

I got the offer! Was waiting for it to post after a little hiatus from travelling!

360,000 points purchased but i forgot about the rule about only using the same credit card for only 4 transactions so my 5th one (24,000 points) is still pending.

I have a 1 way ticket to buy Per - EWR

Then 5 x J seats New York back to Perth.

While this thread is active, has anyone had issues with ticketing for AS awards
Had a CX HKG-JFK bought in June and 6 days ago asked for a KUL-HKG to be added on. Still not ticketed and the booking code is not on the Oneworld system now. Should I be worried?

From what I see its 10days from joining can then by miles.

I did fly with AS but long time ago, they seem to get good wrap, yes they do have direct flights to SEA from HNL.

Go into your account to see what you can buy.

Great replies with lots of interesting information, so thank you to all.

I did start taking a look at everything, but, as usual, with any award flights, J seems so hard to find :( which makes me cautious about buying miles

Out of OZ on the likes of Qantas yes but out of ASIA usually plentiful in J.
