All zeros but lots of open seats

If I have a say V class booking on a later flight, can I waitlist for availability if all classes are sold out? Or can you only waitlist Y?
...
I believe the ability to waitlist depends more on the relevant fare rule, not a specific booking class (although some carrier may have additional limitations).

i.e. If a fare books into (say) L class and it's rules allow waitlisting then it can be done. There is a strong correlation between waitlisting being allowed and the price.

I believe at one stage "Y" class fares were the only fare that could be waitlisted in reservations but that may not be the case now. "Y" comprised both full economy fares & also some other contract fares with corporate accounts that were booked in the "Y" bucket but have their own fare basis & be discounted by a certain percentage off the full "Y" fare.

Just because you can't waitlist "V" in reservations doesn't mean that you can't change your flight, however for the NG Kiosks to do offer it there must be "V" inventory. Similarly most checkin people can only change your flight if "V" seats are still available. Usually only Supervisors & CF have the authority to override the change of class ie using an "H" seat when you're ticketed in "V".

As your "V" fare (VFLEX?) is changeable without paying a fee, you may find the City Flyer Desk may change you if there are still other fare buckets left eg "H" or even "Y" class.

I wouldn't bother asking in QP or JL as they more than likely have to call CF anyway so where possible I would always go direct to the source thereby bypassing any middleman. If you have carry on only I would go directly to City Flyer and say "I'm on a changeable fare is there any chance of getting on QFxx_ to xx_".

It wouldn't matter if you're already checked in on your original flight in "V". In some instances if the flight you want is full they may be willing for you to go on (commercial) standby so you may get on if there are noshows but you wouldn't find out if you're on the flight until minus 15 & you can't do commercial standby with checked bags.

If you do have checked luggage you would need to be rebooked on your new flight first prior to checking in any baggage so in that case go directly to the Premium checkin queue remembering PS, QP and above can now use this queue again effective 17 Oct 2011 after a brief hiatus and ask them "I'm on a changeable fare is it possible you could call the City Flyer Desk & ask if I can get on QFxx_ to xx_". They of course have to want to do this & be in the land of the willing.

Tripit Pro just msg'd me that the flight is delayed but I am not sure if that is just Tripit not recognising the daylight saving differences between here and BNE and is just working off the expected departure time...
