Ignoring the QF lounge side for once, just only on the EK lounge at AKL.
The EK F and J lounge at AKL airport, they are one and the same, there is no differentiation, right?
So, if I booked and fly EK flight with a QF flight number AKL - MEL/SYD/BNE, in J, I am experiencing the same as an F flyer would?
Dont plan to join Skywards, so thought I would ask here rather than on the Skywards/EK branch of AFF.
Thanks for any info.

I haven't used the EK lounge in AKL so this is only a general comment ... and someone with specific experience may prove me wrong ... but ...
Generally when there is only one lounge for F & J pax it is at the J standard.
So I wouldn't get too excited at the prospect of being in the same lounge as F pax.
They'll be slumming it in a J lounge.

A paw to the nose, maybe its a closely guarded secret.
Anyway, if no one answers, come end of Dec, I will go on a recon mission for myself and check it out.
Have tried the QFi AKL J lounge already 3 or 4 times.

It's a nicer lounge than the QF F lounge at AKL is, if that makes you feel better?

Yes, the EK J Lounge at AKL is much nicer than the cubby house that passes for the QF F Lounge at AKL.
The Melbourne EK J Lounge is much better than the QF J Lounge too.
Comfier seats and a MUCH MUCH better selection of food with a full buffet.

If I was SG I would only frequent the EK Lounges wherever possible.

As a SG (shortly) if I'm flying on the EK flight from MEL to AKL in Y but on a QF flight number can I use the EK MEL lounge or just the QF one (which only opens an hour before the flight)

You can use either ... the EK lounge is generally better than the QF lounge - I'd use that one. Also, given boarding for the AKL flight would commence some 45 minutes before scheduled departure, QF time might be minimal.

Yes. You do get the same "lounge experience" as an F pax using the EK lounge at AKL as everything is self serve. It is a lovely lounge and poochiepoops all over the QF offering.

Had the door staff at auckland J tell me on Monday evening I would be much more comfortable in the QF F lounge as the EK lounge was very busy with 'their' customers, I was on QF156......I knew this to be a very big fib given the EK lounge is at least 3-4 times as big as the F lounge and has a much better selection of food, seating and drinks and the F lounge is generally bursting at the seams. Needless to say there were not 2 seats together in the F lounge for my husband and I and it was packed.........there is little point in offering access to the EK lounges for QF status if it is not honoured.

I have in the past struggled to find a seat in the EK lounge due to 2 A380's going out at once. The place was chockers and had to sit in the Qf lounge which was a real let down especially from a food and wine point of view. Always wherever possible use the EK lounge at AKL.

just check-in early(if possible), scope out a spot in the lounge and no issue. Yes, it gets busy >4:30/5pm as the plane loads appear, but you get there between say 2-4pm, the place is fairly deserted, and all that food there just dying to be consumed :)

EK opens CI at the desks 4 hours prior to flight departure, so you can usually check in around 2pm there

They also had Veuve Clicquot in the EK lounge last time I was there, unlike the QF lounge with their very forgettable fizz...

yep, the orange label is in my memory(and belly :) ) too

Hi AustraliaPoochie,
Yes F and J EK lounge are one and the same at AKL, and far superior to the Qantas offering. I was last there in Sept last year, and managed to check in quite early for my flight, as per @RichardMEL 's suggestion .. Lounge was empty, great food, French bubbles (I think yes, Veuve Cliquot from memory...) Lounge definitely filled up with multiple EK 380 departures, but by that stage I'd staked my claim on seating, food and drinks, so not a problem at all.
S :)
