Firstly I just wanted to say thank-you for all your input and helpful suggestions. I’ve really benefited from your collective wisdom – so thanks!

I’m trying out my first ever status credit run… which I have already booked. I really should have asked this question first… but I’ll ask anyway just so I’m prepared…

I’m travelling on a Saturday… with the following flights, arrival times & departures. I am sorta counting on the fact that on some flights, I will be getting the same aircraft back, so if the flight is delayed in arriving, it will be the same aircraft that is delayed for departure… I really hope I haven’t stuffed myself…

What do you think?

Red eDeal
QF787 SYD (0820) – CBR (0915)

JASAs
QF704 CBR (0955) – SYD (1050)

QF1019 SYD (1415) – HBA (1605)

QF1012 HBA (1650) – MEL (1805)

QF822 MEL (1900) – SYD (2005)

I most concerned about the first and second flights – SYD-CBR-SYD… is 40mins enough time to get on & off a plane?

This, plus a trip to Perth & Bris or Melb, will get me to Platinum ;) in Feb... which gets me the SYD First Lounge when Mr Lan & I head to Hawaii... (plus the work trips to India, Singapore and LA later this year).

If you are on the one PNR....you will be ok

The flight times don't look too dangerous, but be aware that any long delay could cause issues.

1st flight to 2nd ... Yes it's short, but you should be ok. And I suspect it is the same plane.

SYD-HBA-MEL - Yep, likely to be the same plane.
MEL-SYD - Shouldn't be a drama... If late, you should be able to move to a later flight.

Make sure you check into all flights online and print out the boarding passes.

The aircraft that operates QF1019 SYD-HBA is always the same plane that operates QF1012 HBA-MEL*

In short, if QF1019 is delayed, so will QF1012. So no need to worry with that one

+1

So long as your on the 1 booking, no need to worry.

And as jdevereux3 (and l think Markis10) has mentioned, your even more protected in this situation

You can check in and get all of your BP's from the CBR Lounge too.

I've flown this same itinerary and it was fine - the first flight SYD-CBR was delayed so I had about 15mins in the J lounge before reboarding.

Again the SYD-HBA was delayed arriving and the HBA-MEL flight on the same plane subsequently held up.

The final MEL-SYD leg was also delayed as the crew who operated HBA-MEL were slow in changing to the new aircraft.

Thanks everyone - I really appreciate your input!

The red e-deal is a separate booking however all the JASAs are on the same booking. I mostly really worried about the first SYD-CBR (red e-deal) flight as it doesn't leave me much time to get the CBR-SYD flight back, but I'm hoping it'll be a-ok.

I'll check in online and get printed BPs at SYD airport.

Thanks again! Here's hoping that they sort out the JASA points/status credits issues not appearing in ppl's accounts sooner rather than later!

Just check the staff don't try to "help you out"

I did a Mel-syd-adl JASA last week and the checkin guy moved me to Mel-adl without asking (and was rather unpleasant when I asked for it to be changed back!)

Off topic, is there a thread somewhere discussing this particular HBA status run and how to get the computer to offer it?

Don't know where the thread is, but doing a multi city starting at canberra and first stop hobart and then return or wherever works for me to bring up options with sydney in the trip...

I just wanted to let everyone know how the trip went yesterday.

The 8.20am SYD-CBR and 9.50am CBR-SYD was on the same plane with the same crew - it worked out really well and I even had time to have a look at the new CBR QP (I'm a bit blonde and forgot that my ticket enabled me to get into the Business lounge...)

I then had lot's of time to enjoy the SYD Business lounge which was very nice.

The SYD-HBT and HBT-MEL and MEL-CBR legs had the same crew (with an aircraft change at the end). So there was no way I was going to miss the flight...

I also have to say, the crew were fantastic on the last 3 legs - very friendly and super service (and to my delight, I was given my first ever 'thank-you note' and a bottle of wine! - this is my first ever Q perk).

HOWEVER...

As we descended into CBR, there was a violent storm brewing and we had to abruptly abort the landing. Cue 35mins of tight (small) circles around CBR. I could hear a lot of vomiting coming from the Y section of the aircraft and...

to my *absolute horror*. I also threw up (in seat 1C, so everyone knew what was going on ) I felt so bad for my fellow pax because although it was a stealthy spew, it's not like you can hide the smell. :(

The crew were totally fantastic and after we landed, were able to rush over to remove the offending bag(s) and help me recover.

I've only ever been sick on a commercial plane once before (and it was inside the bathroom). Oh the shame - my poor fellow J pax

Anyway, it's not the end of the world and I'm sure I'll be able to laugh about it (in 2025).

Good to see the flight timings seemed to be ok. And don't worry about getting air sickness - It happens, and I'm sure the people around you either had sympathy or understood the situation.

I've been in that tight holding pattern a couple of times so I understand.

Might have to try that trip myself.

Reminds me of a trip last year, SYD-PER. A330.
Coming into PER, there was a pax in Y who was "scared-outta-there-mind". Each time there was a bump, there was a "Arhhhh....", after a while the whole Y section was laughing, even the person who was petrified. Don't get embarrassed Lan, stuff happens.
