Hi all, I'm desperately in need of 80,000 QF points to book a 35K km F award and I'm looking at the "AMA* American Express Platinum Card". Now I think it's the the same as the Platinum Charge card as it has a $1200 annual fee (discounted in the first year, though) and the $300 travel credit, but nowhere does it actually call it a "charge" card.

AMA Platinum Card details: https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/amaplatinum/
Amex Platinum Charge card details: https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/the-platinum-card/
Now my questions are:
1) for those in the know, is it the same as the Platinum Charge card?
2) Does Amex still award the signup bonus when I've already got an Amex-issued card (Qantas Ultimate)? I recall reading that they were OK as long as you didn't have two credit cards (as this one I've mentioned above is a 'charge' card)? Although I understand Amex are possibly getting a little stricter with this?

Many thanks!

No personal experience with AMA card, sorry, but its T&Cs say bank issued AMEXs OK; persons with "any card product" issued by AMEX itself in preceding 18 months NOT eligible. (strange, it won't let me copy and past the T&C text ...). Points issued 8-10 weeks after spending critereia met (is this enough time for you?)

You are right. I can't see any mention of 'Charge' card. It appears to be exactly the same as the Plat Charge Card, but appears to be a credit job.

Thanks for the reply.
I'd rather not wait 8-10 weeks although in my experience Amex send the points through pretty fast. I recall with my Qantas Ultimate card I hit the min spend in the first week and the bonus arrived at the end of the first statement.

I might give them a call tomorrow and see. If they say that I'll get the bonus points I might ask for their name and double check that it's documented. :)

I have the RACP Platinum which sounds a similar product and is a Charge. I was under the impression that the discount was permanent. Points arrived promptly (had Edge and Accelerator but never had a Charge). I was later able to add a complimentary Plat Reserve later

When did you apply for the charge? It seems that in the last month or two Amex have stopped giving sign up bonuses to people with ANY other Amex issued cards.

You might be right about the discounted annual fee. I need to look at the fine print again.

About 9 months ago. When I click on the application link it goes through to a page describing the Professional Amex Platinum which I suspect covers AMA and other professional cards-seem to have similar offers. Very good value when paired with a Reserve IMO

I'd be almost 100% sure that this card is actually the AMEX Platinum Charge Card - just at the discounted AMA rate.

I applied 01/02/17, go the card on 07/02/17, hit the spending for reward by 20/02/17.
I only got the 100 k premium ascent point on 26/05/17 after chasing after it over the last 2 months via online chat ( x 5 chat about it over 2 months).
I also think Amex is now quite strict who to give welcome bonus for. You have to be not their customer for at least 18 months before apply to get the points.
It is the same as the Amex Platinum card but the annual fee is $950.

They've been really slow to post bonus points for me as well. However the 18months thing is only if you applied after March 29, as that's when they updated their terms and conditions. I just need to wait another week and my 8 weeks is up and it'll be harass AMEX time.

WOW that's slow. Amex, for me, have always been the fastest as sending the points through to QF.
