American Airlines Booking - Confused about Qantas seat selection and check-in

I’ve purchased tickets via flight centre online for travel to USA from Sydney.
The flights are American Airlines but the Sydney to and from Dallas legs are operated by qantas.
I’ve been able to select seats for the aa operated flights but not the qantas as I get a message saying seat selection is unavailable.
I was hoping I’d be able to pick seats when online check in opens up but as it’s a codeshare, I’m not sure if I’d even be able to do that. The qantas app says I have to check in at the airport as my “trip includes a flight with another airline”.
The qantas website says (under the table for online check in eligibility) that if the first flight is with qantas, I should be able to check in online via website.
Does anyone know if I’d be able to check in online for sure? I’m just worried about the seat selection and I’m hoping I don’t have to leave it until I check in at the airport as my options would pretty much suck at that point.
The flight is aa7261(QF7)
