Qantas Johannesburg Lounge

Thats a great development! The previous lounge was awful. The problem with the Virgin lounge is, it is closed when the Qantas flight takes off, so couldn’t get access.

We flew JNB-SYD mid-August and were directed to the Aspire lounge. Tried BA but it was closed and didn't open until we were boarding.

I wouldn't describe the Aspire lounge as awful -- the bathrooms and shower were quite nice -- and we found a comfy spot to pass the time with a beverage or three.

After the BA Lounge I also thought Bidvest was the next best.

Mid June flying QF J I was directed to the Aspire lounge - it was next best after Bidvest.

Just flew in Nov 2023 from Johannesburg to Sydney.

Was directed to Aspire Lounge at check in / manually written on boarding pass.

Virgin Atlantic advised they were no longer accepting Qantas customers since March 2023. They don’t use Priority Pass/LoungeKey either.

BA lounge had signs showing they only open at 3pm, and another sign stating 4pm, however the entry had 2 staff standing there and they confirmed I could enter if flying Qantas Business (this was around 2pm). Nice showers here and good charging points nearly everywhere (fits AU plug without adapter). Lots of staff around to help with anything, and you can order off a smallish selection of hot and cold food with QR code on tables (in addition to what is out on display). Could only see water on tap here?

The Apsire Lounge wasn’t bad either. I was expecting it to be loud and busy, but in fact the BA Lounge was busier (but still quiet inside, with most people minding their their own business and working on laptops or sitting in the lounge chairs). Aspire Lounge had some things BA Lounge didn’t have, like bottled water, crème soda cans, chocolate cake, etc :)

Looking at the Qantas website, the BA lounge is listed as the partner lounge for JNB. Can anyone confirm? Any issues getting in using status when flying Y? I wasn't able to get into the BA lounge at FCO when flying J so I've had some bad experiences with BA....

I can’t imagine why you’d be denied access flying J (assuming it was a OW operated / marketed flight).

But flying whY on QF as SG will be fine.

QF have just told P1 that BA F dining is available to them at JNB, wouldn’t be doing that if it wasn’t the QF partner lounge.

Flying J to PER on QF metal. So definitely eligible.

I didn't have status at the time, and BA for some reason doesn't respect oneworld rules at FCO.

See comments here from others' experiences. Review: British Airways Lounge, Rome Fiumicino T3 - Point Hacks
All lounges have “capacity constraints” (real or imaginary). CX SFO was notorious, but generally BA are pretty good recognising status and class of travel.

As above, being the QF anointed lounge - no probs. I’ve been to the F section several times.

BA is a partner of QF. Doesn’t make it a non-oneworld lounge.

JL’s HND lounges are also listed as partner.

I think being a “Partner Lounge” means that Qantas Club members can access it when flying to SYD. Whereas OneWorld rules are seperate and QC usually couldn’t access a BA lounge.

Do we know if QF F pax can access BA F Dining at JNB as well? Or limited to P1?

“Eligible passengers travelling on a Qantas-operated and marketed flight in First Class, as well as Qantas Chairmans Lounge members and Platinum One Frequent Flyers, are invited to enjoy the First Dining area. Each eligible passenger may bring one accompanying guest who is travelling on the same flight.”
