Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

Thanks for the reply. I checked the "apply" button, then I also looked up the T&C on the 7500-point bonus. It says that it is available to new Amex customers. Not sure if it means new customers of any Amex, in which case I wouldn't qualify, or for this specific flavour, Escape. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of switching of Amex products? Would it be better if I cancelled my current no-annual-fee QF Amex (Explore, I think it's called), and apply for the Velocity Amex from scratch? OR would they decide that I'm still not a new customer and not offer the bonus anyway? I just have a big imbalance between my QFFF and Velocity points: way too many QFFF points (given that I also have a healthy AA balance), and nearly nothing in my Velocity account, so it would be nice to start using a no fee card for Velocity.

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

Cheeky blighters rejected my application! Despite having already got Platinum Edge and Platinum Charge which I've always paid in full and put about $60k through in last 12 months

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

If you click on the "apply" button, it will ask you whether you are an existing Amex card holder, and also if you want your existing card transferred over to the new card you are applying for. You should be eligible for the bonus once the conversion is approved.
Called AMEX yesterday and was told that only new customers who have never held an AMEX before are eligible for the bonus..

Re: New? Velocity Escape Amex

Damn, so not like Amex in the US where you can switch to new cards for the bonuses whenever a new card with a bonus comes up...

Lets look at the differences:

Annual Fee:
Velocity Card = $0
Qantas Card = $0

Up-front 7500 points:
Velocity Card = 7500 points after spending $300
Qantas Card = 5000 points after spending $300, plus 2500 points after first eligible spend on Qantas products and services

Introductory Interest Free Period:
Velocity Card = None
Qantas Card = 0% interest for first 6 months

Points Earning Rate:
Velocity Card = 1 point per $1, plus 1 additional point per $1 spent with Virgin Australia
Qantas Card = 1 point per $1, plus 1 additional point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services in Australia

Others:
Chip&Pin, Refund Protection, Purchase Protection, Global Service, Online Access, emergency Card Replacement etc all the same for both cards.

Card colour and logo:
Velocity Card = Red with Velocity logo
Qantas Card = Blue with Qantas logo

So the only real difference I can see that would make someone say one is better than the other is that the Qantas Card is offering 6 months interest-free. Other than that they seem very similar.

Very neat, clean and clinical comparison

Way to go !
