Amex “refreshing” Velocity Platinum Card

Crazy that it's cheaper to take out an amex with comp flight + lounge membership included than an actual lounge membership direct with VA. Not to mention how hard it is to earn gold/plat status with the new SCs/$ spend policy. Why would you chase gold when you can fly cheap and use the amex card?

I wonder how many people who have the Amex Platinum Velocity card are already Gold or Platinum with Virgin?
A fair % I reckon so Amex are not giving anything to lots of current users and taking away Centurion access from them and increasing the price by over 17%.
Thanks Amex
The people who got easy status and crowded out the lounges will be replaced by new credit card holders in the continuing crowded out lounges

To be fair the VA lounge membership is $450 and provides access to VA lounges with one guest (+2 children) both same day before and up to 60 mins after Virgin Australia domestic flights.

This Amex card is $440 and comes with lounge access for the cardholder only 2 hours prior to departure. No guests and no arrival access.
