Amex Australia - Centurion Card Eligibility

just got my invite :D
Congrats man!!!

I finally got one about 6 weeks ago also :-)

I think we both applied/were discussing it all, similar times ago, and with similar spends, so that's interesting to me a bit..

For me, its definitely about the additional MR points at our spend levels. .. and the $500 Langtons rebate helps to defray the AF also..

Do you have an updated list on the benefits. Hasn’t heard about Langtons credit.

bit of a let down, not much inside except the card itself and the leather wearable.

my platinum charge from 2019 came with a postcard for each perk i remember

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I got mine when they had the ‘classic’ design with the numbers embossed on the front. Those cards came from the UK was quite impressive though the packaging like you say for the Platinum is more elaborate.

Enjoy the Centurion journey :)

How ru finding it so far?

black card instead of silver so far.
i guess when my RM makes contact it will change it up.
and hopefully some good hotel upgrades for my next stay in Sept

Do share. Sounds like the voice of experience. I’m a self directed traveler so I don’t expect to see much and haven’t :(
You heard the adage that "if you ask ........you cannot afford" .... on the same lines. You will know when it happens, however.
I have too many examples. The self-directed traveller is not on the AMEX radar as much as a dedicated AMEX travel customer.

Got the email today notifying about the change of email address for my RM. Gave her a call & she confirmed all stays the same & the email was poorly worded.

I still think just a matter of time before it becomes self serve like Platinum has now become.

A recent example is a discounted business airfare on Finnair (previously, I flew ANA)—a hotel booking. Gratis chauffeur rides from home and to, and one chauffeur rides overseas to or from your destination. (Blacklane). The ride was a Premium XL, which is expensive in Aussie dollar terms. Then there is a 250 Credit every quarter for Blacklane if you wish to purchase anything above that.
I am sure that there are targeted campaigns on the AMEX website that require a subscription. Not all benefits fit the person's interests, and one can choose. For example, is the 275 AUD credit given bi-annually or quarterly for NetPorter online purchases?

Another exciting thing is Langtons $500 mentioned above ( annually or Bi?). I like the travel services offered. They often have deals that are not available anywhere else. Centurion has many positives, and one thing is its attention and immediate connection to the RM.

I agree the MrPorter credit was good (but small but beggars can’t be choosers) though it’s been gone for a while now.

The Blacklane benefit that’s replaced it is pretty Meh! I’m guessing the take up won’t be as much.

There is varying experience with all the credits. YMMV.

Looks like I've bet on the wrong horse, went with the Qantas business AMEX for higher earn rate before they capped QFF earn, they've blocked me from getting a plat for over half a year now and won't explain why, perfect repayment history and all! m's of spend later no hint of an invite. Missing out on so many miles right now it's killing me!

When you say they’ve blocked you from Amex Platinum is that via the application process? Have you tried getting them to do a product transfer to another charge card like the Business Platinum? Not as ‘generous’ as the personal in terms of perks & the AF is much higher, though the earn rate is the same & you can transfer to QFF.

Business card probably won’t get you any closer to Centurion though. I can see why you want to switch to the Personal Platinum. That might be another gambit for a product transfer since the Business card are personal liability - the same as Platinum. Same type of line of credit & with the prospect of Centurion if the stars align. Hope it works out.

From what I’ve read product transfer is not possible? Would be happy to be wrong!

These are all business cards I’m referring to, The numbers work out for me for the centurion to be worth it with AF due to earn rate.

I did reach out and they accepted my EOI last night but that’s pretty meaningless… we’ll see if I get an American card or an AUS Amex upgrade first. Not sure at this point which is more likely.

I reckon it’s worth reaching out to the servicing number on the back of your card and asking the question. My understanding was that you can ask for a product transfer as long as it was the same credit type(eg charge card to charge card, credit to credit) as Amex’s credit risk doesn’t change.
Aside from MR being more flexible uncapped rewards, Platinum might also help you to get to Centurion more than a QFF branded card. I think you have to have a platinum card to qualify.

Good idea, I've just called and they are saying it is not possible because the card is a cobranded/partnership card that doesn't earn MR. Sounds like if it was it would be a possibility.

Painful... on I go earning 0.75 QF/$ for now.

I've contemplated Centurion in the past (when the benefits were significantly better). I can't see the reason for getting one now. What am I missing?
I am about to discontinue with mine and drop back to platinum.

I only spend about $20k/month so the rewards points bonus and other perks don't go anywhere near covering the annual fee for me. I spoke to my contact there and we discussed the cost/benefits. The conclusion I came to was that my wife and I weren't travelling enough to really get the benefits from the Centurion program.

I can see Centurion being useful if you have a really big annual spend or you travel overseas regularly.
