AMEX Centurion Benefits List for 2016

Hi Everyone :-)

I've been lurking around on AFF for years now and thought I would finally register.

This is my first post (other than my intro one) so be nice :-D

I just received and accepted my Centurion invitation and I'm happy to fill in you in on some of the benefits for 2017. For those that are wondering, I don't spend anywhere near the amounts that are being suggested here and elsewhere on the web needed to qualify for the card. I personally feel that the $5k annual fee is acceptable, although a little steep but I can't find any real justification for the $5k joining fee and I think that it is absolutely outlandish.

In my opinion, most people really wouldn't benefit much from upgrading from Platinum, however, if you travel a lot then the higher status at hotels and car rental places plus some of the airline discounts are worth it. I spend over 6 months away every year and only ever fly first or business so I can see the value in the card.

Interestingly with the included Edge, the points earn rate at some places is higher than on the Centurion.

Welcome to the Club, Itsjustmagic :)

Also confirming 'mobile phone screen protection' insurance is now included with Centurion (same as Explorer card) though there is nothing in writing I have seen from AMEX. I queried with my RM this week and she confirmed.

I will have to make a claim soon (as I smooshed the corner of my phone) so will update on how it goes when I get it fixed.

Yep. Insurance out the wazoo, which is nice. I think Chubb are looking after Centurion insurance now...

Oh? I didn't know that . . . I've mostly looked at the travel insurances which appear to still be with ACE

Ace bought Chubb last year and decided to use Chubb's name moving forward. The policy from my perspective is still the same (centurion one).

I notice that the documentation that was sent to me for my hire car in Sydney yesterday stated that ACE and Chubb are now one company. I received correspondence from ACE in November though.

It's definitely a handy policy to have.

"American Express® Centurion Card has a points threshold of 750,000 points per year of membership, after which your earn rate will revert to 1 point per $1 spent "

Do you know if this 750k Points cap includes points earned on their Supplementary Plat cards as well? Or is it 750k for centurion + 375k Per Supplementary Plat Charge card?

The threshold includes spend/points from the supp Plat charge cards, but if you have the Plat Reserve credit card as well, that is separate.

Worth noting that the Explorer card is part of the 'Gateway' points program and Centurion is part of 'Ascent'. The 'Gateway' points program burn rate is 3:4 where the 'Ascent' burn is 1:1

Just at the Centurion lounge in DFW. The lady said due to it continually being busy, they have a Centurion only table that you have to show your card to sit at.

They also have a higher level champagne and scotch at the bar if you show them your card.
