Will check. Cannot get them supp cards as they need to be 18yo

I know someone who got a supplementary Platinum card for their 15yo child.

Re: AMEX Charge Platinum travel insurance... kids covered when traveling on their own

I know someone who got a supplementary Platinum card for their 15yo child.

It states on the application form that Supp Cardholders must be over 18, and on the form there is a field to write their DOB in.

So unless Amex gave them a special exemption it would seem that they did not complete the form accurately.

Are you sure? Application for additional cardholder clearly states they must be 18+

Anyway it makes no difference for insurance purposes as long as they are dependents... definition is below:
Dependent Child means the American Express Platinum Card member’s legally
dependent child up to and including the age of twenty-four (24), including a
stepchild or legally adopted child, who is wholly dependent on the American Express
Platinum Card member for financial support.

Note the same is true for your spouse, so there's no need for him/her neither to travel with you nor to be a supplementary cardholder in order to be covered by travel insurance...

The relevant part is:

You/Your means any person provided they are an American Express Platinum
Card member
or their Spouse or Dependent Child.

Also note:

Dependent Child means the American Express Platinum Card member’s legally
dependent child up to and including the age of twenty-four (24), including a
stepchild or legally adopted child, who is wholly dependent on the American Express
Platinum Card member for financial support.

Spouse means an American Express Platinum Card member’s husband, wife, fiance(e)
or a de-facto and/or life partner with whom the American Express Platinum Card
member has continuously cohabited for a period of six (6) months or more.

American Express Platinum Card member means the basic holder of an American
Express Platinum
Card, including the holder of any supplementary American Express
Platinum Cards,
issued by American Express Australia Limited (ABN 92 108 952 085,
AFSL Number 291313), billed from Australia and in Australian dollars.

So I would suggest that if your child is over 18 to get them a Supp Card if they earn any significant income or have other means.
Remember you do not actually have to give them the card, just have one issued in their name.;) This removes any "grey" area.

In my case my by then 21 year old daughter is have an extended holiday post-Uni next year, but she will be earning a reasonable part-time income between now and then, and may also work while on her travels.

Cover for a Trip ceases at the earlier of:
(a) when You return to Your usual place of residence; and
(b) when Your Trip exceeds one hundred and eighty (180) consecutive days; and
(c) when you have travelled a total of one hundred and eighty-three (183) days during
each year of Your American Express Platinum Card membership.
Each Domestic Trip or International Trip must commence and end in Your Country of
Residence.

So does anyone knowwhat constitutes an end?ie if someone such as my daughterworks for a few weeks, or a few months, while overseas on say a total trip of 4-5 months, does that constitute an end if they stop and work in the one location, or is that working holiday just deemed as part of the overall trip?

No, apparently Amex just called querying them and they just asked for it. Must have waived the rule, I guess.
