Amex company technology hopeless

I've got the opposite view and have found the Amex network, including everything from phone CSR's to the web presence to be excellent - so good in fact I've pondered more than once to just give up the 'game' on bank issued VISA's and whatnot as they are a complete pita to administer and waiting times to talk to someone if it all goes wrong are laughably long (30-45-60 mins+).

Amex has always been prompt to answer, have fixed everything that needs fixing quickly, and always enquire as to whether you are satisfied before they hand up the call - if not, they pursue whatever remains.

Bank issued Amex cards though are so opaque. They look and smell like a 'real' Amex, but I've never been satisfied with them - you are forced into the same poor service and facilities as any other bank issued card. Business wise, I'm sure the tie-in with the local banks has worked for them, insofar as getting far greater exposure and by way of that, acceptance, but its also muddied, or allowed to be muddied, their otherwise good name because consumer bank service levels are just atrocious.

How did you get hold of a CSR, the Contact US page only has a web form?

I think there is a fair bit of confusions going on in this thread in differentiating Amex Direct cards from Amex Network cards (which is for Bank issued cards).

Have never had a problem with Amex themselves, in fact have found their service superb, not quite so happy with Amex Network- on at least 3 occasions now have had them tell me I'm not registered for a promo, in two cases even after I sent through a screen shot showing I was. They then asked for the emails proving I registered, unfortunately I only sometimes seem to get these emails when I register (and there have been plenty of reports from others of this), and we all know sometimes when you use a promo you get an email and sometimes you don't.

So, while I don't buy into the hyperbole, I would agree Amex Network is not perfect. But hopeless seems to be going too far considering the alternatives.

well, I just tried to regenerate my referal link from my account (the full amex one) and this is what I get?

seems to be happening quite a lot

Ican generate it on my phone without a problem

dont get me wrong everyone, I love the amex, im just mentioning how many problems im having
 
I can confirm that this error message came up for me today. It's the first time I had ever seen an error like this. Fyi, I logged in with an AMEX direct credit card (Qantas Ultimate). All I did to 'fix' it was to click on the refer a friend link the 2nd time and it worked.

If you mean the screenshot in #23Like many website they do not always connect.

Virtually always when I have seen this on the Amex site if you just re-enter your login it then works. I occasionally get a similar issue and message when I go to login on my westpac account, or other websites. I am no IT guy but I assume it is just a connection glitch.

It certainly has never lasted, and I would regard the performance of the Amex website as quite normal.

We'll. Today I used the BP statement credit


Literally as I entered my pin I got an email confirming my cashback

Despite my initial problems, I am damn damn impressed but the Amex system

Wonderful experience!
 
im currently overseas, and I have been using my card to pay for room service at hotels, with a pin,
all go without a hitch

I tried to order soemthing on aliexpress throguh my account, for a few dollars,

once I try to enter it, the site took me to an amex verifcation page, and instantly it sent me a code via email, there was a phone icon on the verification email, so Im not sure if it went to my mobile as well since my Sim isnt working overseas,

very happy that it sent me an email as sms wouldnt have been received,

it doenst happen with my other credit cards, but very impressed that it was done this way
