amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

Seperate gateway program.. already converted them to KF Miles to ensure cant be retracted.

All 3 cards exist under seperate logins to amex website.

Thanks, would really like to know if bonus points are awarded if it links to an existing program. Also whether registering the cards under separate logins makes a difference over whether they are linked. Gateway go ascent premium is 2 programs up though, so that may be why they are linked. Would be great if someone with an Edge could report their experience.
I've just applied today.

Are your points in a separate gateway program or are they linked to the charge card's ascent program?

Big win if you earn ascent points with the explorer.

This is an intriguing statement, how does that actually work / mean in effect?

..... Snip ... looking through the persons account history etc over skype before they transact

Im not saying its risk free, but there are definitely ways of mitigating the risk

How many Ascent points do you earn per dollar on the Explorer card?

How do we know if we going to earn MR points ? Instead gateway ? Is there a way to check ?

Card limit only $3000 Most of bills above $10k. I had experience with amex before, they not really happy when you inject money beyond credit limit, they will call you and explain about money laundering.

Just check the point earning history at Amex website ......

If you already hold another Amex credit card that you might not be using as much as your new explorer just ask Amex to transfer some of that limit to the explorer. Might help tide you over until you've got some track record on the explorer to ask for a limit increase.

Even though I haven't gone ahead with the application but my credit file was hit...Experian took a 110 points drop in the process.

It is the application that causes the enquiry and hence any change to your score, not whether you go ahead and take the card out or not.
