amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

anyone managed to get supplementary card on their own name recently ?? i applied online for it and get a call back and informed it's not possible...

I applied for an 'a/c' card (i.e. 'Joe blogs a/c') over the phone was very easy. Allows you to split say personal and work expenses. They call it an additional card.

I already had Platinum Charge and Reserve cards when I applied for the Explorer. After I received the Explorer card for myself and a Supplementary card for my Wife that I applied for when putting in the card application around 5 weeks ago I called the Platinum phone number and asked about getting Supplementary cards for our Son, as well as for each of us so we'd have two cards each. I said I would like two cards for each of us so I can keep work expenses separate from personal. I was told that for myself and my Wife it's a separate request they submit for "Additional Cards" rather than as a Supplementary. Our original cards just had our initials and I requested that the additional cards have our full name, which they do, so we can easily differentiate between them. They are all listed as Supplementary cards when I log in to my account.

thanks for your prompt reply, albyd and Ken1 :-)
so it's best to call and ask for additional card instead of supplementary card.. do you get another phone call to verify for the additional card ?

I didn't get another call. The operator I spoke to said he would submit the request for the additional cards and they arrived six days later, the day before the Supplementary card that we requested at the same time for our Son arrived.

I judt applied for supp cards

I was told the max is 4. I asked if the 5k bonus was still on they said no. Maybe twice a year. I said I'd wait and the guy said I'd miss out on all the offers in between then.

So I applied for 4 relatives (real ones)
I hope they don't ask for ID because it's a pain to ask them.

I thought the max was 5.
Oh well. 4 on the way
I didn't use fake names just in case they ask for proof

Well I managed to ring up and have my Explorer delinked from my existing Plat Edge Ascent Account (arrived automatically linked). It was no drama and the operator was super helpful, however couldn't do it on the spot, saying it would take 3 to 5 days. No reference at all to points or inability to collect the sign up bonus. I guess I'll need to wait until the split has happened then hit the spend requirement! Here's hoping it all goes to plan!

I have requested my Exploerer to delink from my Ascent Account on 4th but until now the reward program is still under my Plat Edge Ascent. Anyone has the same situation?

A lot of people have for supp cards. Some have put their own names but different spelling. Some have made it up

All power to them, then. I'm not a magistrate or an ASIC investigator.

I wouldn't recommend this kind of action to anyone, personally. There are some ways that we skirt rules or the like. I draw the line on financial instruments under false or dishonest identities.

i hear where you are coming from, I am more willing to do that since ,the account is completely my responsbility so if it gets used by the person who I gave it to without my permission ive only got myself to blame

many a lifetime ago, the card I had had a supp card fee,

what I did was I called the bank up, and said my card stripe was getting old, and they sent me a new card right away.
I gave this card to my partner , and she used it like her own and paid me back as she wasnt interested in points, but I didnt consider it to be defrauding anyone

plus we avoided the supp card fee

just called to relink my cards after getting the bonus and was told to use up all the gateway pts as they can't be transferred over (american call centre)
i think the ship has sailed..

i might call again next sunday if i remember, otherwise the pts will be going to SPG

How many points would you get if you were to transfer them to SPG? Is it 82,500 based on 110MR Gateway? If so I'll probably do the same thing
