Amex not accepted at JW Marriott Auckland

It’s a bit crazy. Our frequent NZ travellers fortunately also get a Mastercard for legacy reasons but it does seem an aberration. I will raise this with our local Marriott rep.
Thanks for offering to take it up local reps.

I also have a mastercard but because of last minute booking made by company travel team , total charge was beyond my limiy and did not want to block personal funds for company travel.

I stayed two weeks ago at the JW in Auckland. Amex is now accepted. As a Platinum, I was given a higher floor room. The hotel does still feel like the Stamford it once was, with a faded 80s edge.

Two weeks later still awaiting any Bonvoy points to credit as well.

From all accounts, we need to give Marriott a bit more time with this acquisition to bring it up to global marriott standards. At least we had a small win getting Amex accepted.

Shows how tricky acquisitions are v new hotel openings

I’m wondering if they would have been better off closing the doors and doing it properly rather than serve up a pretty poor product

I would tend to agree! Must’ve wanted to have capitalised on the reopening trade. Fortunately in Australia we don’t seem to have that issue. Need to try the Le Meridien and Ritz Carlton in MEL soon!
