AMEX not accepted or surcharge

I have given up worrying about AMEX not being accepted or a higher surcharge.

My wallet contains a Visa that earns 1.5points/$1 so I just use it when I have to.

It's always frustrating when there is surcharge or merchant don't accept amex at all. Which visa gives 1.5 points? Are you referring to Qantas points, because the best i could find is 1/$1.

Went to a Westfields shopping centre and needed to buy an item from the concierge desk - AMEX was refused based on an email sent out to the staff - it appears only to be site based as I didn't have this issue at another location. VISA was accepted.

You seem to have taken exception with my choice of descriptor serfty. Maybe I am showing my age but I like to keep these old Austalianisms alive. ;)
No exception at all - i used the apostrophes to highlight to the young'ns out there ... ;)
Slightly OT. I never use E anything as my local garage man says he makes a lot of money from repairing vehicles that use 'E' fuels. (Even ones that are supposedly OK)
Seem like a predjudice from your garage man - just like a son-in-law who refuses to use Woolworths branded fuel as in his opinion it is 'junk'.

There may have been some issues in the early days of ethanol mixing (especially unlabelled) and perhaps some problems with Woolworths but that was last century and there's no directly related problems these days.

- but indeed, that is getting off topic.

Anywhere there is an AMEX surcharge, I just use the XS card.

Always carry one - at least !

No EFTOS on phone, then VISA would be used.

Had a shocking experience at Oporto. The usual one I go to use to accept Amex, and today they stopped.

Their ANZ terminal first said Tap not supported. Then it instructed me to insert chip. After inserting chip, it said chip not supported, and to swipe. So after I swipe, it said Card not supported.

After all that, the assistant tells me they don't take Amex. :(

All that effort.....seriously who programs these terminals...

1.5 QF or VA per dollar?

I have never heard of such a thing. What card is this?

I use my Citi Signature card. Warehouse the points and transfer later to Velocity of Kris Flyer.

yes, off topic; but for the record premium fuels don't contain ethanol.

The Reserve Bank allowed merchants to charge customers X% for this card, Y% for that card, and Bejeezus% for Amex. Amex can't be happy with that.

One of my favourite restaurants in Perth, Hippo Creek @ Hillarys always accepted Amex but charged a 2% surcharge.

I filled out the info on the Amex link 2 weeks ago, and tonight, whoopsie doo, no longer an Amex surcharge...

Now that's a win! Delighted with that. Keep filling out the form on the website guys..
