AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Are these prepaid credit cards fee free? - normally around $5-6 fee right?

Last year there were 3 rounds of targetted promos where the activation fee was offset with Flybuys
There was a similar offer for EFTPOS cards in WW which was open to all

Recently switched my power to energy Australia. They take post bill pay, but when trying to pay with PayPal I get a "biller doesn't accept this payment method" message. First time I've come across that.

Just switched to Amex DD with energy Australia. Pleasantly surprised when they told me the usual surcharges don't apply for DD payments. Have signed up my Amex explorer to it since it pays full points on utilities.

I've seen this. If you try to link it to an Visa or Mastercard it will probably work.

Does anybody else have issues with Vodafone post-paid when trying to update AMEX direct debits?

Every time I update my card details online, VF authorises $1 on the card (so its system picks up the new number), but then the next screen shows my old card number but the new expiry date, even if I log out and back in.

Surely I can't be the first person to update an AMEX online: is there a trick to doing this to actually make it work, or is this something I'll have to call VF about?

In the meantime, have just overpaid the account by a couple of hundred $$ to ensure payments remain up to date... not loving the 2.365% surcharge (Vodafone sneakily advertises it as 2.15% + GST), but at least the Explorer gives full points with telcos. Certainly wouldn't be paying that to earn 0.5/$1. :)

That was my experience with VF too when I recently switched DD from Visa to explorer to get the screen insurance. Debits have been coming out if the right account so might take some time to show in online systems. I called VF customer care and they confirmed the right card was showing in their system.
Agree, it's sneaky of VF to disclose the GST free rate to make it look cheaper than it is when we're going to pay GST anyway. I only tolerate it as it's my business phone so works out to decent cost for screen insurance after tax (and explorer pays full points on telco).

spacebar

I'm with EA, I think early last year I could pay via Paypal(amex) but then they stopped accepting it. Which was fine as i then paid them 0.01c a time through my BankWest card :)

Bondi Whole Foods Surry Hills NSW 1.75% for all cards including eftpos. Have them my Amex hopefully they are registered as a 'restaurant' so I get my 3 ppd. Got a shock about the eftpos charge or would've used my eftpos GC that I'd bought on Amex.

The surcharge at Bondi Wholefoods has only come in at the star of this year, which is a real shame.

No 3x points for restaurant spend on the Qantas Amex Ultimate either (charges appear as 'Lion Pacific Pty Limit' on the statement)

Thanks for the heads up 2tall4Y. I had breakfast (not great value in my opinion but my wife is on a health kick) in the cafe next to their food store. Would've used my Explorer to pay instead as 1.75c/point is a little steep. It's showing up as 'Lion Pacific' on my pending transactions too.

Country Growers Warringah Mall now have a surcharge for Amex. Lost much of my custom.

What's the name of the mob where you pay them via amex for a 2% surcharge and they pay your supplier?
cheers

Damn 2.4%. GST is ok I can claim it back
I could of sworn I saw something that is 2% a while ago - maybe I was wrong.

The other thing I thought was you could only use a charge card, but reading the terms again it seems it says any Australian AMEX - would it work on a explorer? 2ppd@ 2.4% tax deductible is still ok I guess.
cheers

Pointhacks had a good article a few months ago-pretty sure that it was ok
